Night feeds!
When do you stop giving them? Or start decreasing the amount they have? Do you just go with what they want? My lg seems to get most of her milk at night time, nearly 16oz through the night and probably 17oz-20oz during the day with 2 meals which she doesn't always finish! X

My son is 1 and still wakes for night feed although hV shouted at me for allowing him one.

My lg is two and still sometimes wakes for milk. She is a fussy eater and will eat very little some days so I would prefer she has some milk than nothing as she wont go back to sleep without it.

Following.
How old is your lo? Mine is 14 weeks and I think we are getting close to dropping the 3am hopefully?

Mine stopped at 8 weeks except a dream feed at 9.30pm. Dropped that at 4 months. I found if i gave my baby a dummy if she woke she'd go back to sleep so clearly not hungry. X

I followed her lead - Bethany dropped the overnight breastfeeds of her own accord, at around 7 1/2 or 8 months. It was just after I transitioned her to cups of formula during the day.
We've always made sure that there's a cup of water in her room, so when she wakes we offer her water first - 99.9% of the time that's enough and she'll settle again but if that doesn't satisfy her then we offer milk or toast.
The water was OH's idea; we were gearing up for me to go back to work, so he wanted to be able to help more & be able to settle her when she wakes in the night.

She's nearly 6months! She used to go through the night and then the 4 month sleep regression happened and she's now wild for bottles in the night! She's definitely hungry! Today she's only had 15oz all day, so it's like she's saving herself for night time! I'm a bit lost on what to do, sometimes it's taking her up to 2 hours to go back to sleep!

Have you tried a dummy? If you try to discourage the night feeds, she will hopefully then take more in the day. X

Yeah she has a dummy! But will normally just stay awake until I feed her! I've tried leaving her but we both just end up tired the next day! I'm going to try and dream feed tonight as she's had so little today and maybe just try putting her dummy in and settling her if she wakes again! Wish me luck!! Lol x

With mine I stopped at 8 months because they were both enormous babies and by that time eating solid meals really well & drinking enough in the day...it was just habit! I was bf too so by that fed up of doing all the night stuff on my own.
Just my opinion but felt they didn't need milk anymore.
With my second it worked really well and she doesn't wake up too much anymore (13 months now) but tbh my 3 year old does still wake! He definitely doesn't need milk, he's just not a great sleeper & needs comforting.
I read a great blog on what to do about a broken night - like when your baby is up for 2 hours at a time. Mine were both like it....take it with a pinch of salt but worth a try. I found it on Facebook: baby sleep science: sleep resource center (American spelling). Good luck ?

My lo stopped herself which is good . Sh3 is now 10 months

I won't be decreasing any of my bm until my lg is ready too. There obviously waking up thirsty so why deprive them of a drink x

My little boy is just over 6 months and still wakes up for a bottle in the night ? my HV told me to stop but when I don't feed him he is awake for over 2 hours just fussing around, I have started to believe that he will drop it when he wants too, he's had tonsillitis the last few days and has woken most of the night but refused milk even when we were desperate to help him go back to sleep so I don't think he will drink it if he didn't want or need it, I'm going to just wait until he doesn't drink the full bottle I make as that way I know he's just using it as an aid to sleep so will decrease the Oz every couple of nights x

My son just turned one and is bf. He still feeds once or twice in the night. Sometimes more on a bad night. I'm waiting for him to self wean

I never deliberately stopped night feeds, she kind of just self weaned herself off them x

I wondered this too. My hv said I should just stop feeding Sam at night as it's now habit (he's nearly 11 months old) but as he's allergic to dairy I think I should continue his 2am feed so I know he's getting what he needs in terms of fats etc. Tricky one.
