Glucose blood test thoughts
I'm not sure whether I should do the glucose blood test to test for gestational diabetes.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you have to do it. It's not really an option. It doesn't matter if you are a good eater or terrible eater, the test determines how well your body processes sugar. Even if there is no risk of diabetes you have to do the test just to rule it out because it can be dangerous if left untreated.
My doctor didn't give me the option to opt out of the test but i would take the test just to be safe regardless because it's not worth the risk. Talk to your doctor and see if there is an easier way for you to do the test since you are on bed rest. There may be a place you can lay down while you wait.
Just do it, it's better to be safe than sorry. I hate needles and I'm so worried about failing the 1 hour then having to go back and get blood drawn 3 times. I didn't know it was optional but my doctor asked if I wanted to do it at my last appointment since I denied all other testing. This one is really important though
I have done it with my first and am currently doing it as I type. With my first I had a bad first test and had to do the second. Thankfully I passed the second but I was only 23 then and there was the risk I wouldn't. I was also perfectly normal like health and weight wise and had no symptoms. It's better to be safe than sorry in my opinion.
I suggest taking it. Some labs will actually have a backroom for pregnant women to lay down while there are waiting for their blood to be drawn. You can call labs in advance to see if this is an option if you prefer. If you're on bed rest, you may want to ask your doctor whether or not it would be better for you to do the one hour test or the three hour test to get it out of the way in case you do test high. It will save you one trip to the lab.
I've had GD with two pregnancies, there were no symptoms. The potential consequences of going untreated are far worse than the test and even the daily blood monitoring if needed.
Well i dont want to take it even tho we are supposed to. With my first i didnt have it but with my second i did so i might repeat. I hated it! Pricking my fingers all the time which that alone was enough for me. Then at the end they were gonna give me insulin and i went in labor that day! Take the test
I've always done it. It's really not that bad. But you wouldn't show signs even at 22. My sister was just diagnosed and she's smaller and more active than I am at 29. My mother had it when she was pregnant and didn't know. If you're on bed rest, discuss your options with your dr. Because if you have it and don't catch it, it can cause you to have regular diabetes
There are two versions of the test. The first test most doctors use is the 500g sugar drink. You drink it, wait and hour, they draw your blood and you go home. My midwife gave me the drink in advance so I can drink it an hour before my appointment time. No waiting in the office! It's a very simple test that insures that you and your baby are healthy and will stay that way. Absolutely consider taking it.
You always have the option to refuse it. They can't make you do anything. But it's highly recommended! I have mine next Tuesday. I'm not looking forward to it. Luckily, I get my blood drawn, drink the drink, have an US and get my blood drawn again
