Breast Feeding With Piercings...

Breast Feeding With Piercings...

I have my nipples pierced. But I want to know if I can still breast feed with them in. I know I have to take them out while breast feeding. But if I can't, I'll try to do pumping for him. But if all fails, I'll be having to give him formula. I don't want to give him formula, but if I have to, I will.

I was recently reading that it can prevent you from BF depending on how its donr i would be careful or not do it at all especially if its important to you.

Had mine done for 6 years and took them out before being induced. I breast fed for about a month but couldn't put the barbells in during that time because my nips were swollen and just in pain! Plus it's annoying to take them out and put them back In every 2 or so hours so baby can feed, which will just irritate nips more. Best to just take em out when baby comes then repeirce when you're done breastfeeding

@callie no I will but what if I can't breast feed? I'm just thinking ahead. I do have some formula stocked up just in case. I'm not going to rob my child from breast milk lol. Sorry if I worded things wrong ladies.

Breast feeding is not "always" painful. Nature didnt design it to be. Each woman, each baby is a different experience. Some women have a difficult experience, while others have the complete opposite experience. I nursed #1 & #2 with zero pain, zero infections, zero nipple problems. I will also be nursing #3 and expect another positive experience.

I had mine in for 10 years, absolutely loved them, and then had to take them out when I hit 6 months pregnant. My nipples have gotten so much larger they were in pain from the pressure. I was in tears the pain was so bad, and then cried some more when I took them out. Now my left one leaks more milk than my right one; the left holes are still open while the right have closed up. I've read that some mothers have had to reposition their feeding baby up higher on their boob so baby doesn't choke on too much milk that's coming out of the piercing holes. I'm hoping I can get my barbells back in at least one nipple after I'm done BF and just re-Pierce the other one. I miss them so bad. ?

You can take them in and out but I would imagine that would become annoying very quickly. I took mine out while in labor and delivery and milk does come out of some of the other holes. I never put them back in , the first few days baby will feed every hour. Are you prepared to take them out and put them back in more than 24 times a day? Also when baby is hungry baby is hungry and you would have to take the time to remove the ring prior to feeding as baby is screaming. I would suggest if you do want to breastfeed just take them out. I mean you didn't think you would be 90 with them still in did ya?

I took mine out just after I had Aliyn. She never had any problem feeding from my 'sprinklers'.

The midwife told me I didn't even need to remove them, I did because I was worried the balls from the horseshoes would come off and choke her.

You'll be fine feeding your child.

You would choose formula just because you don't want to take your nipple rings out?

I took mine out about a month or 2 before my son was born. I planned to only remove them for feeding but as milk started coming in and nipple swelled it was too uncomfortable to keep wearing the rings.

As far as choking, ,, at night I noticed he didn't want to nurse because letdown was too strong. I had to let the milk drain out a bit before he could eat at his own pace.

@madison I never heard of that before... I would talk to a lactation consultant to see if that was true or not. They would know for sure.

At some point your going to have to take them out. The nipple ring or stud becomes a choking hazard for baby. Also your at a bigger risk for infection. And most obvious reason is do you really want your baby sucking an earring. Also breastfeeding is very painful in the beginning shoving a earring back in and out is going to hurt and irritate your breast. Pumping is no different you must take the earring out for pumping as well or risk your earring tearing thru your nipple from the suction. Your nipples will be very swollen from breastfeeding and pumping

I would take them out. I know that's not as easy as it sounds but if it's what is best for your baby then you should.

The best thing for you to do is to just take them out.

I took mine out when I found out I was pregnant because the holes can make the milk come out too fast and they baby will choke. Went through that pain of piercing for nothing!! ?

As far as I know you can just take them out when you feed your LO and you put them back in after the feed. I don't see why piercings would prevent you from breast feeding your baby unless they damaged the milk ducts

Not really. I have high pain tolerance. But if you want yours pierced, get a female to do it. I got mine done by a female, I've had them for almost a year. I got them pierced just because. I was just bored with my body. I had my belly button pierced but it kept getting irritated. So I said screw it and got my nipples pierced. I got my belly button pierced just because also lol. I never really show off my piercings. I don't even wear hoops for my lip piercings.
