plus size glucose screening help!
plus size glucose screening help!
Okay mommies, being plus size and pregnant how many have passed the 3 hour glucose screening? I'm absolutely terrified I will fail! This is my first time reaching this far in a pregnancy!

I ate a chocolate doughnut before I went in. I completely had a pregnancy brain moment and didn’t even think about the sugar in the doughnut possibly messing up my results. My doctor told me “eat a bagel or something small before hand” so my mind went straight to doughnut and I just had to have it. Lol

I also didnt drink anything with sugar before testing. My mother in law said she did when she was pregnant (got up and had a glass of coffee with sugar like normal) and she was getting tests for like 6 hours straight when everything was fine!

My starting pregnancy weight was 240, so my doctor had me do the 1 hour glucose test at 14 weeks, and it came back as 93 when anything above 140 means its positive. I was soooo worried!

I’m from Australia and they don’t even bother doing the one-hour here anymore. It’s two-hour, or three, only. My doctor said the one-hour often gives incorrect results. And that they have missed women with GD before, because they passed the one hour.
So it’s probably better to do the one test, than to have to come back and do it a second time anyway.

Also I never got to take the one hour either. They said they forgot to schedule it so they are throwing me straight into a 3 hour which makes it even worse.

I was on the high end of my 1 hour at the very last number you can reach in the “normal” range but they didn’t make me take the three hour. My doctor also told me it isn’t about weight but woman with a family history of diabetes or gestational diabetes is at a higher risk of developing gestational diabetes and might have to take it twice. Lots of plus sized woman pass their 1 hour with flying colors and lots of petite woman develop gestational diabetes so your doctor needs to get his facts checked before making you feel uneasy about something because of your weight. That’s just rude. Good luck mama.

My doctor told me that it was because of my weight ?

I failed the 1 hour and was terrified about the 3 hour. It came out inconsistent. The first hour was high by five, the second hour was perfectly normal and dropped by over 40, and the third hour it was low by 10 and dropped by over 70 from the second hour. So I have to take it again :/ from what I've heard most 3 hours come out fine :) and my doctor said weight had nothing to do with it it was the way the placenta formed

I'm plus size and passed the 1hr test twice (history of type 2 diabetes in family) so I had to take it at 18w and again at 25w just to double check.
