Venting about Move

I was made to feel guilty the other day by my future mother in law. My SO and I signed onto a lease in an area where we want to be in. Very beautiful place, we love the community and the area. It is like 30 to 40 minutes from both our parents and a 40 minute drive to my work. We are using a lady that is a family friend to watch the baby for a couple days when I go back to work after ML and she is right on the way to my work and right down the street from my parents. She only charges 30 bucks a day!!!

My brother used to live in Crystal Lake! I wouldn't go over there often but the drive wasn't bad. Just ignore her. You are grown enough to make your own decisions. If you and SO are okay with the move then go for it!

Thats awesome :) We love that area. My parents live in Rolling Meadows and his parents are in Vernon Hills. It's not that far from both. She is like over board stressing about it. I told her it could be worse and it's not like we're moving 100 miles away. It's less than 25 miles! Good grief.

It's her choice if she will see the baby or not. It's only 30 min away...that is nothing. It's probably a good thing you are not closer to her, it seems like she is trying to be too controlling already. Imagine when baby is here. You are going to have to get your soon to be hubby to go talk to her.

That's not that far at all. Living that close to my family would be great! She's probably just afraid that she's going to miss out on a lot. She's the grandma, so she's got to realize that she won't get to be there for every little thing, and that's okay. My mil says things like that from time to time, but I don't feel guilty anymore (although she's not trying to make me feel guilty like yours). She just hates to miss out, and I get that, but it's life.

40 minutes? That's nothing! We live across the country from our parents! Remind your MIL that it could be much worse. If mine badgered me like that I would consider moving farther from her!

If its where you want to be, that is all that matters. When we got married, our minister gave some advice. You are creating a new family and they have to come first. If someone is trying to overstep boundaries, then they need to be dealt with. Since its his side, he needs to talk to her and tell her how it is.

It sounds like your doing a good job standing your ground. Keep it up. She sounds like someone who will walk over you every chance she gets. And she's being very childish by trying to make you feel guilty and repeating herself. Would ignoring her when she acted that way help? Or block her number for awhile?

I think if she keeps pressing the issue I will change the subject or nicely tell her I don't want to talk about it anymore.

Typical mother In law, you guys know what is best for your family. Do not let anyone come in between It. I lived with my MIL for about a year and I could tell you it is the worst experience , I live 3.5 hours away now and It is the best feeling ever ! She still doesnt talk to me but It is our life and we choose where to go and what to do! So dont be worried enjoy it !!!!

I think the fact that it's your SO's first time moving has a lot to do with it. She's used to being attached and seeing him whenever she wants and probably expects the same of the baby. I think distance is great in this scenario. She sounds like she'd try to be overly involved in your lives. Also, that drive is nothing. If she wants to see the baby, she will make an effort. Not like it's a plane ride across the country.

We're actually moving closer to my husband's parents and it's like an hour drive. His dad is already talking about how he's going to come over and see the baby all the time. I'm like whoa, you're not going to be at our house every single day.

My and my SO jus moved away from both our families. And over 18 hours away! Even though they were sad, as were we, it was what we wanted and felt the best thing for our family. It's been almost a year since we moved and I don't regret it at all!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I appreciate it. We have our gender reveal party this Friday and I told my SO to tell his mom not to bring up our move at our party. It's our day and we don't need negativity!
