Am I being too shallow?

So my boyfriend keeps mentioning that he wants to name the boy, if we have a boy, Joseph Daniel Jr. I love the fact he wants to have a Jr. BUT..I feel bad because I had all these names in my head for the longest time that I've been wanting to always name my child, as I'm sure the rest if you girls have had names that you had loved for the longest time that you wanted to name your child. I haven't really mentioned to him that I don't want to name the child that name because I don't want to sound mean and disappoint him.

It's both of yours baby, so you have a say in the name. It doesn't hurt to have a discussion with him and come together in naming your child. ?

I would let him.. Especially if that's his first son... Mine will be a Jr.

Girl I'm in the same boat! My husband wants a Jr and he's dead set on it! I feel bad becasue it will be his only son and we have two girls that I named. But I really hate the whole Jr thing and his name is like the number one most common name ever...ugh!!!

I don't think you are being shallow at all. Both parents should love the name. I'm totally against naming a baby Jr or in our case the 4th (my husband is the 3rd)! Thankfully my husband has always been OK with that, not that he has had much choice so far as we have 2 girls and our u/s tech believes both twins are girls as well lol!

I had always love the name Jameson growing up. The thing is my husband is Brian Charles Jr. which made my first son was Brian Charles III. My husband is the happiest person alive having a son as his namesake, his happiness was more special than getting my way. In pregnant with #2 and if it's a boy I'll finally get my Jameson

I think you need to both agree on a name

The reason why I am so hesitant is because we haven't been together for a long time. We met at the end of September. I think I'd feel more comfortable naming him a JR. if we were together a longer time and or married.

The baby will have his last name though for sure.

All I have to say to say is choose before baby is here. I was determined not to name my first jr. But of course we couldn't agree on any name...once we were in the hospital and had our son I really didn't care cuz I was holding a healthy perfect baby boy and he's a jr hahahaha ? And technically it's your second son that should be named jr so you can always say that. I like his name tho! Good luck

If he brought up JR I'm sure it means something to him to carry on the name. Proud father to his first boy. Is it that you don't LOVE his name( if you really don't like it I understand your point, you should both agree on a name) or is it that you already had your mind set on certain ones? I'd be hopefully that you have another boy in the future that you can give the names you have in mind. Can't name the second boy Jr.

I think my husband wanted to name our son after himself but his name is so unique. He grew up with people always mispronouncing his name and then his mom said she misspelled it. We really didn't want that for our son. we both just decided that it would be special if we got to chose our sons name. This time around it's the same debate I think we will use Hubby's first name as the baby's middle name and choose his first name together. It's really fun choosing a name with your husband. Maybe your hubby will be happy if the baby has his middle name...but I do want to say your husband has a really nice name.

I always had a list of names that I would want for my babies but my husband didn't like any of them. So we just made a whole new list. I think it's important that you both agree on the names that are chosen.

I felt the same way as you with my first. But, after we found out it was a boy, I saw how proud it made him to have a son that would be named after him, and it changed my mind. I only had one rule, I didn't want them to call by the same name. So my son goes by a nickname, but knows his real name is the same as his dads.

Could always use his name as the middle name. Kind of a meet in the middle compromise?

You could always nicely say "I love that you want a JR, but I was thinking maybe naming the baby ____ or ____" and get a feel for how he reacts and give him time to think about it before bringing names up again (like give him several days to a week or so before saying anything about baby names or even wait till gender is confirmed then re-bring up names) then it gives you both time to think about the name

Oh I should mention that he does like one of the names though.. Jackson. My boyfriends middle name is Daniel...so maybe Jackson Daniel?

I think both parents need to agree on the name.

Emerson? Girl or boy name?

Emerson? Girl or boy name? My husband and I love the name Emerson for our son. But after I looked it up I saw that is really popular in the US as a girls name. What do you think?
