joint custody schedules
Do you think 6 years old is too young for an every other week schedule? Right now he goes back and forth every 3 days, but the schedule has been crazy and I'd like some stability for my SS (and everyone else).

My daughter who is going to be 11 goes only every other weekend.
My son who is 9 months was given a temp schedule of Tuesday and Thursday 1 hour at my house and Saturday 9-4p and Sunday 130-430p, wondering what the final schedule will look like... As my hex is one big disaster. ?
My steps change homes every Friday since 3yrs. Now 5. The older one is 7- he said he doesn't know where he belongs. I said you have 2 homes.
SO started it right before SS 3rd birthday.
My Stepsons are 7 and have been with my husband since they were 2. We split the week, 4 days one 3 days another. Honestly I never really thought of doing one week on one week off. I personally wouldn't like not seeing them for that long of s stretch.
we had every weekend. Switched to all vacations because the hex moved and enrolled in school.
My ex and hex started eow when ss was 3 and it worked ok I guess.
My husband and his ex separated when my SD was 4.5, had jount custody 3 weekdays each and every other weekend each; however, there was no real routine because mother required some kind of change literally every week. By the time little one was 6, they agreed on week-week scheme; during the week there are calls or hangouts with an absent parent. We have a calendar in the kitchen, it is marked which week is where, so SD can see how far from seeing Mommy she is and how many days she has left with us. She seems to be fine, she is 7.5 now. Also, Daddy tells her repeatedly that if she misses mommy - she should tell him, and he will call mommy and they can go out for a lunch; also, if she misses him - she should tell Mommy and he'd take her out. Children need predictability and secure bond.
Nope! We were just granted that today (during the summer. It may stick come school time if hex enjoys her weeks "off"... Who knows) with SD(6 in August) and SS (4 in July).
I think it definitely offers more stability than moving around every couple of days :)
My SS will be 3 in August. We get him every other week switching every Sunday at noon. Works for us for now.
We got divorced when my dd was 4. We started every other week from day one. Drop off/pick up is Sun at 6pm. She's always stated that she loves having us both equally- her words. She will be 9 in Oct and is very well adjusted. I like it because she likes it. I don't like it for selfish reasons (I miss her terribly) but it's not about me, right?
We recently started every other week like 3 weeks ago ??
We had the same exchange as you at first, and then we switched to two day switch off and alternating weekends (fri-sun), now we finally got to the every other week and it's been really relaxing, SSs attitude is laid back now and the acting out has decreased. It's also a huge plus we get a week off in between! Lol
Oh and he's 4 years old (5 next month)

My son is 6 and we do every other week. Sunday I drop him off at his dad's, the following Sunday his dad drops him off at my house. We've been doing it for over a year now. Works out good for us. It's not a long drive or anything, same school district.
