Calling all moms/nurses/birth experts... Sorry I had a glitch and I was too lazy to type it twice.

Yeah my doctor also gently but firmly pulled it out. I was induced so I already had pitocin and she just waited til the cord stopped pulsing and then pulled it was a strange feeling actually.

My doctor just pulled it out on his own by the cord ?I didn't have to do anything

It hurts because it makes you deliver faster, it's potentially unnecessary, and it can interfere with breastfeeding.

It also does the EXACT SAME THING as if you just breastfeed immediately after delivering the baby.

I have always gotten the pitocin shot after delivery, by consent of course. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Can anyone tell me adverse side effects from getting the pitocin after birth?

They gave me hard pushes it hurts but it all came out just very very sore.

I hemmorage after all 5 of my births.

I received my shots 4 times in my leg after I gave birth. After they attempted to get the blood flow stopped.

Once it was given to me by IV.

I believe i was given pitocin to deliver the placenta...no one asked me though--if they asked hubby, idk....cause i apparently missed a bit...lol too busy holding my baby and trying to not move...

In my birth plan I have written, "I decline the use of Pitocin after birth unless there are clear signs of hemorrhaging." The lack of consent is why I am pushing for a hep lock instead of an IV, that way they can't hook up Pitocin or Cytotec without my knowledge.

I wasn't given pitocin to deliver my placenta. But I did end up needed a D&C because it wouldn't completely detach. My dr didn't want to risk pieces being left behind.

The shot isn't necessary when I attended homebirth we only administered it if there was bleeding that wasn't stopped by natural measures . Hospitals do a lot of things "routine " that aren't necessary for all .

15.10.2015 Нравится Ответить

I was induced so I didn't need it as it was already in my system. However my midwife informed me before I chose to be induced at 41+3 that I could decline the shot unless I needed it which I would have done had I not been induced.

I was given a shot of pitocin in my thigh right after delivering my second. I had my daughter all natural so I was surprised when they did that. I was induced with pitocin with my first and didn't have any bad reactions so I was ok with 1 small shot after my second.

** editing to add that it took about 10 minutes for the placenta to come out after and there was bleeding (a little more than usual but not scary amounts) so that could be why they gave it to me.

Maybe put in your birth plan that you want it only in the case of unusual amounts of bleeding.

I hemorrhaged after my dd and had to have 2 injections. There wasn't even time for them to tell me or let me choose. The obgyn had both of her arms inside of me trying to massage my uterus. It was scary... I thought I might die. Not sure how much blood I lost. The next day they offered me a transfusion, but I denied it.

ETA: my injections were in the thigh even though I had an IV. I guess they thought it was faster maybe.

It is standard practice at most hospitals. The only reason you would know is if you declined an IV in your hand because then they have to give you a shot in your thigh.

I think I'm going to decline it.

Eta: wow PP we were saying the same thing at the same time.

I had it, didn't have an IV and they gave it as a shot in my thigh. They said it was routine. It took me 10-15 min to deliver the placenta so I don't know if that has to do with it...

15.10.2015 Нравится Ответить

I had hemorrhaged with my first. So with my second he put medication inside of my body before I had delivered so I wouldn't bleed out.

But I had to have my IV kept in until I had gone to the bathroom three times on my own to make sure I wasn't bleeding too excessively. Otherwise they would have given me medicine to halt the bleeding.

You could always request to wait and see if you will actually need it. I had pitocin 4 times and only had trouble delivering the placenta once. I did remain on the drip for a bit post delivery.

I wasn't induced but I was given pitocin after my drug free birth with my second due to hemorrhaging.. I would decline unless medically necessary it made me very jittery and it gave me really painful contractions after I had already finished given birth which really sucked lol.

I wasn't given anything for the "placental delivery" I guess you could call it, but I was induced. It just kind of flopped out, I didn't even know it was out and then she starts checking if she needed to stitch me. I was surprised it went so fast considering I had been told a couple times that the placenta was super hard to deliver.

Nope it's an in-hospital birth.

They said it's so routine they usually give it to moms through the IV without them even knowing. ?

15.10.2015 Нравится Ответить

I didn't have pitocin after my vaginal delivery. I had to push again and it came out. I wasn't induced.

15.10.2015 Нравится Ответить

My placenta kinda just flopped out.

I was induced.. if that makes any kind of difference.

15.10.2015 Нравится Ответить

yea unless you are being induced and already having pitocin I never have been told that.

15.10.2015 Нравится Ответить

I don't know why they would require it to deliver the placenta. I didn't get any kind of medicine to deliver my placenta. I gave a tiny push and it came out.
