For diastasis rectis or separation of the abs from previous pregnancy planks and sit-up and crunches are a no no , they worsen the separation. If you don’t have separation of the abs or this is your first pregnancy then your good to do them. The op said she has a gap from a previous pregnancy so doing planks will make the gap worse

Here is a really good article on it

Also the npr article for postpartum diastasis rectis workout

Lets see., pre preg workouts went like~ one day I would do a good sweating workout and then it would be three weeks later until I did my next ? lol

I wont strain myself but I'm excited we get to plank!? Yay! Thank you for that confirmation

My OB says it’s okay to do planks! I did it with my last two pregnancies all the way though, it’s great!

I'm 16 weeks and do planks, side planks as well as side bends with a light dumbbell for safe ab exercises. Working out is safe while pregnant as long as you were working out prior to your pregnancy. Avoid sit ups and anything where your lying on your back

There was a npr article I read about exercises to do for diastasis rectis but you probably shouldn’t do it while pregnant as it requires you to lie flat on your back and inhale as much as you can and hold your stomach in all the way. Anyway I read else where that side planks are the way to go, don’t do crunches, or regular planks or sit ups because it makes the separation worse. Also there is a fit pregnancy group on here

I'm not trying for a six pack but maybe simple planks are okay ?‍♀️ ? Just keeping core in line as belly gets bigger instead of letting core get farther apart by growing belly. May help with labor too?? Where are my pregnant fitness gurus ??????

When your pregnant there will always be a gap, it's how our bodies are made to stretch out. But after baby arrives in due some simple core work will bring em back together.

While you're pregnant ab workouts a rent going to do much since your abs are relaxed so much. Better to do something after your 6 week recovery post partum.
