Treatment 4 depression etc

So dh just went through this. He was struggling and super anxious and just on edge and began drinking more often. He started with a therapist and within a few weeks decided he needed meds to add to the mix. He started on Zoloft and was on it for a few weeks before it really started to make him feel better. He's his old self again and handling stress very well. About a month into his treatment his mom had an accident and ended up paralyzed. I thought that would throw him over the edge but between the therapist and the meds, he's upset of course but is handling it appropriately. Good luck OP

My bf is going through a tough time psychologically and i think hell be put on meds soon for now he just started therapy though. Hopefully it helps cause this situation actually has me staying at my moms house ?

I was on Prozac for one day and thought about killing myself, it was frightening. But there are some medications that will work while others won't. For instance Prozac is working well for my sister. Please help him seek help promptly, depression is a very scary feeling. One of the worst times in my life was having to battle my own mind everyday.

I'm on a very low dose of prozac for ppd/ppa, been on it in the past. I feel better. I do have a decreased sex drive though. I hope he gets the help he needs!

Honestly I'm all for medication when absolutely necessary there is underlying issues to the depression and my first attempt would be talking to a counselor. See how that goes and then go from there if the psychiatrist thinks meds are needed.

Depression is hard, most of my family struggles with it. I would also suggest going to a depression support group they are very helpful in helping you be able to support him.

I am the same way. I grt upset very easily and have bad anger and anxiety. I have PPD too. My doctor put me on Fluoxetine 20mg (generic prozac) I'm on week 3 I believe or going on 3 and I feel so much better. I missed a day last week and could tell. I didn't have a sex drive before and it's actually improving it.

I went through this and it turned out I had a hormone imbalance, my thyroid was underactive and it made a HUGE difference when I started taking thyroid hormones. I would definitely recommend him getting his hormone levels checked before going on any medication

Part of my depression issues include anger and mood swings. I feel s*** ty about my life, my job, my self, then I get angry because I feel like I'm out of control and spiraling downwards, I get angry that I can't fix everything and make it right again. So once he gets on meds they may actually help the anger too. There's a lot of different kinds of meds, if he has a bad reaction to one kind that doesn't mean that no meds will help, he just needs a different kind or a combination. Also, it'll take about a month for the meds to take effect, they can also have crappy side effects at first that go away after the first month. If it lasts longer than a month then it's probably not the right kind for him

It all depends on what meds he's given. Please keep in mind that some meds create side affects. For example suicidal thoughts. If he has these thoughts his doctor needs to be informed to either reduce dosage or be put on another anti depressant. Some meds work great on some people others not. Just keep a close eye on him, mood changes, appetite etc.

@texas did it make you demotivated in your hobbies or lose sex drive at all?

I didn't think meds would help me and it's the best decision I've made! I'm take lexapro 20 mg.
