How much milk should I be pumping?

How much milk should I be pumping?

Ladies, I know milk production varies for everyone. My lo doesnt latch well so the doc told me to pump after every nursing session. How much should I be pumping every time? How much do you breastfeeding + pumping mommas get?

I have to pump before feeding and then I feed and pump after I was told by the lactation consultant and my doctor that I have Hyperlactation syndrome and yes every 3-4 hours I pump 30-40oz. People tell me it’s a blessing but it sometimes is very inconvenient. Yes I freeze my milk in my deep freezer.

I pump both breast 1 hr after feeding Lo from both breast and pump for 10 min each breast getting 1oz-2oz. I do this 3-4 x’s a day. So I get about 4 oz to “store”. My lo is 4weeks tomorrow. Weight gain has been good it seems. He goes Wednesday for his 1 month check up.

And 30-40oz!!! That’s an insane amount I hope you’re storing it or is that strictly pumping no baby at breast? If so I can see that in a 24hrs time :)

It's actually very normal to pump about an 1-2oz but some mommas are blessed to make a lot more.

If you want to increase your milk supply you should pump for an additional 15mins after nursing. This makes your body think that baby needs more milk.

@JasmineNicole3, is it 8oz you get per half hour session or is it the total of all 3 sessions?

My milk took 3 days after birth to come in. I breastfeed every 2 hours and try and pump at least 3xs a day for 30 mins. My son is a week old and i can pump 8oz and still breast feed after. Constantly pump and breast feed and your milk should produce more. To begin i read you should be pumping 2-3 oz
