Necessities So I know this group has a lot of ladies with 1+kids lol so I wanna ask what are the necessary things and…

Crib, bassinet, car seat, baby carrier. (We have a Tula and it's my favourite baby item) and a nursing cover. We have a baby seat and it's handy but I used the carrier more.

I wouldn't even bother with a crib right now, as my daughter didn't sleep in her own room for around 7 months. Instead, she slept in a Rock n Play (around $55). We tried a flat bassinet but she hated it, total waste of $100...even if it did have ruffles! ?

The diaper amounts pp mentioned were right for us, too, even though my daughter was under 6lb at birth.

Another great way to save money is by breastfeeding if you're able. No formula, no bottles...and you can easily get a free pump if you are going back to work soon after.

As for clothing, look on FB for a local kid's consignment shop. We had a great one in the last state we were in that you could swap clothes for store credit and then get bigger sizes. It was very helpful!

I had a crib with my 1st and never used it because cosleeping just works better for us so we never worried about nursery stuff after that. So my necessity list is maybe *1 box of newborn diapers because my babies chunk up quickly,* 2 boxes of size 1's and a few of size 2's. *Lots of wipes because youll use them for more than just bottoms. *A car seat, *baby carrier because im not a stroller kind of mom lol even though we do have one for theme parks, *a bouncy seat or, two because its do easy to comfortably shower with baby a couple inches from you. *Baby soap, *baby lotion, *lots of receiving blankets, *cozy soft blankets, *a diaper pail, plenty of onesies and jammies in sizes newborn, 0-3 months, and 3 months, lots of little socks.

I agree with everything the PPs said. Don’t buy a lot of newborn clothes- they grow sooo fast. I had a lot of clothes around but honestly the things I always put him in were the zip sleepers. Other things that are more nice to have- changing table, swing, and sleep sacks. I would also suggest checking Craigslist or FB marketplace. I learned that you can find so much baby stuff used and often in like new condition for half the price or less! Especially toys.

For newborn stuff you could go to the Dollar store or a consignment store. Make sure you wash everything first. But just cuz newborns grow so fast!

To keep it somewhat short you'll need (other than diapers and wipes obvs)

* baby grooming items (nail clippers/nail file, baby brush or comb)

* baby shampoo/body wash

* wash cloths and towels - get at least 10+ wash cloths and 10 towels. Honestly the more wash cloths the better! Buy some cheap ones you won't care about wrecking.

* diaper bag

* swaddling blankets - I prefer the muslin blankets, they're big, light and are great for many things other than swaddling

* hats, mittens, socks - the more you use these things the more your baby will get used to them and be more willing to use them as they get older

* car seat/stroller

* for clothing, I suggest you buy anywhere from newborn - 3months-6months. And for pjs get zip up! They'll save your sanity while changing baby at 2am ?

* with the crib you'll need a mattress and some crib sheets - no need for fancy bedding or crib bumpers until baby is 10months to a year old

This is baby #5 for me and my lifesavers beyond cot (crib) and car seat have been a bouncer/swing/rocker, and a baby carrier (Tula is amazing, or a stretchy wrap for a newbie) ... change table can be handy but I always ended up on the floor lol
