Quick question! Do you HAVE TO go to your 6 week checkup? What exactly does the doctor do at this appt? I have two kids…

I definitely would have the check done, I had no issues with healing after my first 2 babies but had pretty bad abdominal separation with the 3rd which was picked up at the 6wk check up.

I didn't go when I had my first.

This time around I will definitely be going. I think it's important. I want to be screened for PPD and I will be getting on birth control.

Of my five kids (all c-sections) I've only went to one. I asked my doc and he said they were to check how everything was healing, how I was feeling. He delivered all my kids.

They check out how you're healing. Ask you about your mental health. They like to see the baby. ? Birth control. Basics, but I'd call them necessary.

At my 8 week appointment my OB checked a lot.

1) cervix check

2) Pap smear

3) incision check

4) uterus shrinkage check

5) checked for abdominal separation

6) screening for pp depression

7) discussion on birth control

8) discussed breastfeeding

9) suggested some hospital provided services for supporting a ftm

I can't remember what else but it was a 30-45 minute appointment. Her nurse even held Ds for me while I had to lay on the table for the exam.

Yea I would think that a 6 week check up with a c-section would be more important than a vaginal delivery .... I have never missed mine ... Always had vaginal deliveries...

They check you?

I had a 3 week incision check and a 6 week appointment. It's very important to go after a c section to ensure the incision is healing properly.

My Dr usually checks me and makes sure everything is back to normal down stairs, gives me the green light to resume intercourse and discusses birth control.

I would say very important. I know you said you where having a section so I'm guessing they would check how you are healing and ask questions about ppd.

With a natural birth I got checked to see if my cervix had completely healed and if I had any questions or concerns. Also to be cleared to return to work

Mostly they make sure your cervix is closed and you are healing correctly. Ppd. How you feel? Breastfeeding help?

For my 6/8 week check Doctor just asked me if I was feeling ok, that was it, nothing else. Didn't do any physical.

Might not bother going to next one unless I have something I want them to check out.

If your 6 week checkup goes well brilliant that's the hope but it does not make it an unimportant visit. It is important to go to make sure you are healing properly.

I went for the 6 week check up only because my girls had their needles that day but I wasn't actually booked in to see the doc but that quickly changed when I said I think I have PND. But I was never physically checked. I'm from Australia though so it may be different

My 6 week appointment was pointless in my opinion. All that doctor did was say it's been 6 weeks your stitches should be out you're clear for sex and exercise and here's some birth control.

I was in and out in probably 5 minutes and it was a 45 minute drive with a crying child I was so angry.

Maybe your Dr could refer you to another one for your 6 week check up. At mine, my dr checked out how I was doing and I wanted an iud so she put it in that day. If you have a c section I'm sure they also make sure you are healing correctly

If you are having a c-section, for the love of god go to the check up. Seriously! I wish I had a 6 week check up (it got rescheduled until I was 12 weeks pp) instead I had a nasty surprise of my own at 8 weeks and had to go to emergency and jump through all sorts of hoops with strange doctors instead of the OBGYN I trusted. Moreover, it is an important check up to check in on your mental health post-baby. Definitely recommend that you go!

Exactly what the other ladies have said but I just want to add if you plan on going on birth control they typically will not prescribe it until the 6 week check up.

With my first I didn't get a check up at all.

With my second I went and saw my midwife. She performed a papsmear and felt my belly for separation. She asked me how breast feeding and motherhood was going and that was that.

Hmm...idk what to do. I guess I'll talk to him at the hospital and see what he suggests. Maybe he can see me right before I leave and if I have any questions I can call him.

I got screened for ppd, we discussed how I was doing breastfeeding, in general, and with DD. Then she checked my incision, cleared me for working out, and then wrote my prescription for birth control.

I thought you went back at 8w if you have a section?

Pp she's talking about the 6 week check up after you have your baby.

They check to see if your cervix is closed and your uterus has completely gone down

It's advisable. But it's just a checkup to say how you feel, talk about your body and how it's healing...
