Christmas Eve and I snapped

So my brother in-law and his gf lost their house and we let them move in with her 4 kids and 1 due any day now, putting 9 people living in my 4 bed house, her kids have been so disrespectful and never listen, and my house is always a mess and I'm the one picking it up every single day, yesterday I finally snapped and set rules in place (can't turn on TV without and adult cause they broke my last $4k TV, I assigned them one of each dish because they constantly are using new dishes every 5 min, no longer allowed in the kitchen because I am spending way to much on food that they feel they can get into whenever) letting the kids know since there mom can't punish them enough to get it through their head I will be taking over and punishing them myself!!! Well needless to say my brother inlaw and his gf are pissed off at me and are moving out. Honestly I'm not sorry about it they have been here for almost 6 months rent free food free everything my husband has paid for and all I asked was for respect especially from the kids who are more than old enough to know how to pick up after themselves. But now my husband thinks I went over board??? I mean I can careless if he is upset with me about it I am entitled to my opinion and how I am treated and my house I treated!!! But apart of me does question was alittle to much?

Wow all that for free and no respect ! Probably a good thing you said something or they might have stayed for ever ! I'm wondering if they can move out now why did they not do it before ?

You go girls! 6 months is ways too long anyway for a family that size. I would've given them a month top

After my first night of actually sleeping with no interruptions for the first time in 6 months I am thrilled with my choice. We did let them know they are welcome to live here but as long as my rules are fully forced:) they aren't wanting to but have no choice I have given them til the end of January to find a place of their own, they both have jobs now they can get their own place:)

I did that with my sister in law. I took her and her two kids in because my neither is in jail and her mom is psycho. She let her three year old do whatever she wanted. She never cleaned up after herself or her kid. I was the only one cleaning up after everyone. One day I just stopped. She and her kids went camping. I found maggots in my bathroom from the dirty wet clothes she left laying around. My walls had marker on them. My kitchen, which I rarely used, was filled with bugs because she never washed her dishes. I ended up calling her and telling her it wasn't working out and she needed to leave. Never mind that she didn't pay any bills because she refused to look for a job. After she left I looked in the bedroom she was using. Dirty diapers and f*** ing TAMPONS! I'll never let anyone move in again.

Hell no! You did what I would've done but I would've snapped a lot sooner. They're taking advantage of your kindness; the least they could do is keep your house clean and discipline their kids since they're living there rent free with another mouth to feed coming! It's your house, don't let anyone make you feel like you can't run things in your own house. And to me the fact that they're so ready to up & leave proves they're using you because if they really needed the help they'd try to help the situation even if they were blind to their actions before. I wouldn't feel the LEAST bit upset if I were you. Power to you!! Lol

Ficking hell. 6 months and they didn't pay rent or food? The least she could do is clean up after her own kids. So disrespectful. I lived with my aunt and uncle for a year and even though I was 18 I have done everything I saw needed doing without even being told or bought stuff for them if I used the last of anything. Let alone if I live there with my kids as a grown up. Better that they're gone. It's not worth it, you getting stressed when pregnant. Also they broke your telly? :O

Did they at least offer to replace it pay a part of the new one?

I wouldn't feel bad at all, your hubby will soon come around and you have your house back, them disrespecting you was not ok and you were fully within your rights to implement house rules in YOUR house, if there parents had any respect for you they would have done this themselves

I snapped at hubby 4 weeks pp because 18yr old ss kept dumping dirty dishes in sink and never washed them and when all the clean ones from dish rack were used by him eating 5x a day, he'd get new ones from kitchen cupboard. I told off hubby to sort this out as i am not prioritising cleaning up his mess and a sink full of dirty mugs, plates and cutlery and leave my newborn daughter crying. I have enough things to do at home.

In the end people get used to you doing everything so you need those rules in the 1st place. In-laws getting pissed off because they can't raise their kids with basic manners and respect is unacceptable and this should be a basic expectation and standard of any parent. There are parents out there who would say you are out of line and expecting too much but they are old enough to know right and wrong

Don't start to regret your actions. You are trying to maintain a household! I couldn't imagine how you coped with these issues for 6 months. Bless you! Personally, I think you could have done a lot worse, a lot sooner. Now you can focus on you and baby. Hopefully in the long run, hubby will realize that this was for the best.

Nope! Your house, your rules and if their mom won't discipline them, then someone should. Especially if they are living there for free. There are too many parents out there that let their kids rule the roost and it sounds like that's how they are.

You did the right thing !! They took advantage of your kindness in your heart so don't feel bad because of that people will abuse it as long as you let them so it's better to cut ties off now than later
