I had to wean my son off with soy milk. It was the Silk brand at the time. It was the only thing he would take smh I breastfed him until he was 16 months .

I was being sarcastic. I know some women go as long as 48mo or 64mo. I weaned both of mine at 20-24mo. Congratulations btw, it's hard to keep that up.

I hate when people try to tell other people not to wean when the OP clearly states that she is ready to wean. ?

I am in the process of trying to wean my youngest as well. She's 10 1/2 months. Again, this may seem too soon for some people but it's what is right for us. I weaned at the same age with my oldest. Anyway, the biggest thing for me was making sure I started during a stretch of time when my husband is working day shifts so that he can take care of bedtime. If I try to put her to bed without nursing, it's hell but it goes much smoother with him when she knows she can't get it from him. With me, she will fight it until I give in, which I always do because I can't stand to watch her cry, knowing what she wants and that I am able to fix it. It's definitely not an easy process but I think establishing a new bedtime routine is key! Good luck OP!

@riverboat, she BF for 2 years. That's amazing! No need to tell her not to wean.

Cut it one feeding at a time. Or if that's not working, cut the times down first then eliminate a single feeding at a time.

Do not wean! Breast Feed until 48months or at least 64months!

We just started night weaning at almost 14 months. Like @newly said, start nursing a bit before bedtime, then read or complete your bedtime routine. I've started laying in the bed with her and reciting the books I know from memory (she signs "book" at least 50 times a day). So far, most nights she quietly flops arounds like she's lost her mind for about 5-10 minutes, then lays down and goes to sleep. I plan on letting her day wean on her own, but we are already sleeping better! The constant waking was killing me mentally.

Pick her least needed feeding and cut it. No matter how upset she gets. Tell her when she can nurse. Stick to those exact times. Ex: 9am 12pm 7pm. Only feed at those times. After a few days, pick a new feeding. Keep doing this until you get to the most important feeding.

Also, move up the night time feeding. Feed her, keep get awake, and then read a book or something. You'll need to detach the idea of nursing being how she sleeps

That's a tough one!! My son just stopped nursing at a year old. Literally just stopped nursing the day of his first bday!! I'd say to start during the day. Try to cut out feedings like u said by distracting with other things. Night might be much harder for u since she's used to falling asleep nursing. Maybe your SO can put her to bed for a few nights if possible? Sorry I'm not much help. Good luck

Also, do you have a nighttime routine? Maybe you can play to wear her down, give her a bath, and then maybe she will fall asleep without asking?

I stopped BFing when my LO was almost 16mo. Good thing was she was starting to fall asleep by herself at nap time. So I started cutting out nursing at nap time. I then started cutting out nursing throughout the day and then eventually at night. Even when she cried I would not give in. I would read to her, let her watch dog videos on youtube (she LOVES dogs), and let her throw a fit till she fell asleep. It was very hard. But eventually she would fall asleep without asking and started sleeping all night long.
