We alternated Tylenol and Motrin and kept her hydrated. Whatever she wanted to eat we gave her. She liked Gatorade and peeled grapes. I know giving meds sucks, but it's how they are most comfortable.
My niece and nephew had it bad in their mouths a couple months ago. Their doctor gave them a mouthwash type of lotion thing that helped the pain and let them eat. I'd ask your doc about that kind of thing if it's really bothering the poor thing.
My son and daughter just got over this. We had a lot of popsicles, water, and soft foods. Also the dr recommended biotine mouthwash to help with the mouth pain and warm saltwater. My kids are 4 & 11 though so they knew not to swallow. I also bought oatmeal bath & eucerin lotion for their hands and feet.
