Question for moms of uncircumsized boys

DS is 6 weeks old and is not circumsized. The hole at the end of his foreskin looks really small. I was changing him today and I tried to retract it a bit to make sure there was no poop under it. And I realised that it doesn't look like it could retract completely. I didn't try it of course to avoid hurting him but I'm kinda worried about that. DH had to be circumsized when he was 15 because of the same thing.

It's totally normal for the foreskin to be fused to the glans and it's hardly ever retractable at that young of an age. The average age for full retraction is 10. But the only person who should be pulling back or retracting the foreskin should be the boy himself. Just wipe what can be seen and bathe in water or with a very mild soap.

The foreskin is fused and the hole is small when they are newborns. The older they get the more the hole stretches and the foreskin becomes unfused. Sometimes you may still not be able to fully retract it until after puberty.

@B lawrence: for my husband, it wasn't fused but the foreskin couldn't retract completely and it was causing him pain when it was erect.

You wash it like a finger no pulling the skin as it's not retractable yet, I believe it's age 5 ( not for sure but that's what I remember my midwife saying) that you can retract it to clean...look it up online, my son isn't cir either he's 1yr old and haven't had a problem, keep him bathed and wiped clean and your good to go, I slather coconut oil on his bum and penis( wet not rubbed in) to keep him from getting diaper rash, and sometimes the tip of the penis can get a little rash from being in contact with pee too long ( over night, or really long car trips ect) so the oil really helps and It's has antibacterial properties too.

You are never supposed to retract an intact penis. It will do so on its own as he grows older. My son is intact and I just clean it like a finger.

That's just what it's like in the beginning. Do not retract him, the foreskin is still too attached and you can risk ripping something or infection. Poop won't get in. It retracts itself as he grows and he also will play with it causing it to retract at times. Let him do it himself when he's old enough. My son is two and we don't retract. It still hurts him.

My DH and my brother are both uncircumcised and never had any problems. Just clean what you can see and leave the rest alone.

My son isn't circumsized and i was told to leave the skin alone. Once you start pulling it back germs get in and that's what will cause infection. In the beginning, you aren't supposed to be able to retract the skin at all because there's no need to, it's something that happens as they grow.

My son is now 18 and has never needed an emergency circumcision. The penis is self cleaning like the vagina, you wouldn't clean inside a little girls vagina, the body does it all on it's own. Just make sure he's bathed and changed regularly and his penis should be just fine.

I think he's probably fine. Normally an uncircumcised penis is self cleaning and the hole is supposed to be small. If there was something under the foreskin I'm sure there would be a pretty horrible smell after a while?
