I used to save bug carcasses with my older brother when we were pre teens and had them in a tool box. We taped them on a display case and labeled them. Collected over 20 bugs and spiders. Good ol days
I get why they can be seen as cute or interesting, but that noise is just awful for me. Like an oppressive cacophony of someone dragging their nails down a chalkboard.
Isn't it time for the periodical cicadas to come back? The orange-eyed ones?
I was a kid the last time those cicadas came. You couldnt walk outside without being hit by one. We were fishing underneath a bridge that summer and the cicadas would swamp there and crawl all over you...
We would grab them out of the air and stick them our fish hooks to use as bait. ?
I'm from SoCal and thoroughly disturbed by these things...lived in AZ for a time too, hated the bugs. But...huge bugs... that fly, swarm and live 17 years? Bait?!
First time I heard of these things, (here on BB) I thought it was a joke, only to be horrified.

They are cute to me, also love the sounds they make. Reminds me of childhood Summers.

Me too. I used to remember seeing them falling from trees because of the wasp named the cicada killer. One of the biggest wasps u will ever see.

Yeah I used to collect them too. Everytime I found one it was like finding gold

No, these are called DEVILS.
Side note, my dog LOVES to eat them ?
They make this very annoying high pitched scream ?
