So frustrated!!!! Any advice??

My little one used to nurse for long periods of time like yours does, my LC realized she wasn't eating towards the end, she wasn't swallowing and was only suckling for comfort. A neat way to tell if they are actually nursing is to lift their arm, if there is resistance they are actively nursing or will start again, if the arm is weak or floppy they are just suckling. If babe is just suckling place your pinky in the corner of their mouth to break the latch and slide your nipple out of their mouth. Maybe try other pacifiers to see if you can find one your little guy likes, and if you need to, replace your nipple with a pacifier. And as someone else mentioned, I would get a good carrier that you can wear your son and breastfeed him in. My daughter was colic at your sons age, and this all sounds so familiar, pacifiers and a carrier were a big help for us. And it does get better with time, trust me! Hang in there, you're doing great!

This is normally for a few months truthfully.

Btw I breastfed for 14.5 months.

Yeah I have tried many different positions, and I do burp him..

I will continue to try though... I just don't know how much longer I can last..

Have you tried different positions? My guess is he doesn't like the way he's being held or he has burps/gas, both could make him uncomfortable. As my son grew it felt like we were constantly changing positions so he was comfortable. He actually prefers lying in bed now so we do that and cosleep. Right around 7-8 min he always gets fussy and fidgety and I know he needs to burp. Hang in there Mama! ❤️

He still nurses for 30-1 hr at a time, but now after nursing he screams and claws my breasts... He does this on both sides every time he nurses...

When I do get him to sleep he wakes up 5-10 min later hungry again, so I try to nurse him, he will latch on and suck for a few min then started the screaming and clawing..

I tried a pacifier again but he will only suck on it for a min then starts screaming...

I don't know what else to do!!! Any advice please!!!!???

It is SUPER hard and you're doing great. It should get batter in a few weeks. Hold on mama,and if you can't then just know you tried!

Thanx ladies... He is gaining weight just fine, he is now 8 lbs 8 oz... But still constantly feeding... We did try a paci but it doesn't change n e thing... So I stopped giving it to him..

Baby is gaining weight and having wet diapers. There is NO indication it's a supply issue. Using meds, herbs, and excessive pumping when not needed can cause bad oversupply issues which causes medical problems for you and baby and could end your bfing.

What baby is doing is completely normal. The first 6ish weeks of nursing is hard and all-consuming. You also need a new LC, she's an idiot.

What may help is a carrier you can nurse in so that you can still chase the other kiddos and do stuff around the house too!

Drink mothers milk tea or take fenugreek pills to produce more milk it helped me a lot good luck

Are you giving the baby a binki? My daughter did the same thing at first& I was crying bc I didn't think she was getting enough turns out she just liked sucking! Gave her a binki and she eats maybe 30minutes total every 1-4hrs! No problems she's a month old now and I pumped since my milk came in and stored around 50oz in the first 2 weeks now I'm on antibiotics bc I have a severely clogged duct& I'm trying to prevent matits!! Also if possible here& there it made me feel better to pump& give the bottle so I could see how much she is trying to eat! It really seems like you're doing multiple feedings at one time after 20 minutes each of my breasts are empty, weather I pump or nurse or both! Good luck it's really hard I hope you can do it! Not so sure if I can with this clogged duct :/ btw 1clogged duct turns into 3 real frickin quick!

He's only 3 oz from birth weight! You are doing great! I understand how hard it is. Bf is hard! Try looking up a local LLL on Facebook. My group has an fb page where otther moms and leaders post quickly and my leaders will even take phone calls just to vent, cry, and get reassurance. They understand not everyone can make it out to every meeting (although you should try). Also try looking up "timeline of a breastfed baby" and you can see the differences in expected growth between a bf and ff baby. Many doctors and lc's continue to expect bf babies to grow at the same rate as ff. This is not the case most of the time. This information may give you some peace of mind in your body and baby's progress.

Pumping this early can lead to oversupply which then causes a whole bunch of issues. Pumping is also not indicative of supply. Keeping lo on the breast as often and as long as he wants right now will do more for your supply than pumping. You are doing great and you are not alone.

My LC is not with the hospital, my hospital doesn't have an LC, she's actually with my local wic office...

I am pretty sure he is having enough wet/ dirty diapers... As for gaining weight, I know he is gaining some, when he was born on 9-17 he was 8 lbs 2 oz when we left hospital on 9-19 he was 7 lbs 7 oz and when weighed at wic office on 9-24 he was 7 lbs 15 oz... They didn't say if the weight gain was a good amount or not...

Unfortunately my DH works 2 jobs right now so he can't help much and my kids are only 5 and 2 so they aren't much help... Though my 5 yr old tries her hardest to be a big helper...

He does sleep in his bassinet right next to out bed, and I usually don't have to get up, since DH gets him and does diaper change and then hands him to me... So that does help a little...

I and as for his latch the hospital, my doctor, and the LC all say his latch is great, it does take him a minute to latch on but they said that's fine...

Is his latch okay that he is actually transferring milk? I'm assuming your lc looked at that. Is he gaining weight and having enough wet and dirty diapers? If so, your milk supply is fine and it sounds like he's doing what he needs to build your supply. I know it's tough but keep going! This first 6-8 weeks are tough and it seems they are always attached. Is there anyone who can help at home? Turn the other kids into little helpers or try nursing with baby in a wrap or sling so you can at least get up and around. At night try co sleeping. If you're not comfortable with bed sharing you can still put lo right next to your bed so you can nurse in bed and put him back without having to actually get up.

My lo was like this and her pediatrician had me believing I wasn't producing enough milk even though she was gaining weight. I also was trying to pump and supplement. That much to do with no sleep and thinking I wasn't making enough milk was stressful and discouraging. I got depressed and then lo wanted the bottle only. By 4 months we were done bf.

Is this lc affiliated with your hospital? Try searching for an independent IBCLC in your area and La Leche League for support. It will get better soon!
