Another cervix check question

Another cervix check question

For those who have had cervix checks before, are they painful? I feel like I've heard people say it is painful and my doctor mentioned last visit that at 36 weeks she will start checking my cervix each week until delivery. Anyone know any benefits of asking to wait until 39 even 40 weeks or risks of waiting? First time mom here. Thanks!

It risks introducing infection. And some women can be 4cm dilated for a month before labor and some wont be dilated at all until labor starts. So it's pretty useless. Unless you're the type of person that has to know

Thank you all. I think when the time comes as long as things are going smoothly, I will ask to wait until at least 38 weeks. If things are going well at that point I don't want to cause any unnecessary disruption. I trust my doctor with my life and love her dearly but that being said, she listens to my concerns and I don't think she'd see a problem waiting either.

They are uncomfortable. I️ haven’t had any yet with this pregnancy. They usually start at 36 weeks but I️ think I️ might decline since I️ know I’m group b strep positive. I’ll talk to my dr about it.

I got one a couple weeks ago because my cervix is very short. It wasn’t painful but it didn’t feel great. Only took a second though.

You can decline them if u want. Here in the uk cervix checks do not happen until ur in labour. 36 weeks is a bit early id b worried about infection.

It’s been 5 years since the last time for me and I’m not there yet with this baby, however I remember more discomfort than pain
