Pumping I hate pumping. It's damn near impossible with a newborn and an almost 3 yr old. But my lo isn't gaining weight…

I feel ya. I have a 17 month old and my daughter just turned 3 and a newborn and I exclusively pump and it's so draining and I'm so exhausted and ready to give up

Well, now I'm pumping exclusively. LO just wasn't transferring enough milk to gain weight via nursing. My supply tanked and I've spent the last week and a half doing everything in my power to bring it back. Pumping around the clock 8-10x a day, drinking obscene amounts of water, oatmeal with ground flax in it every day, fenugreek, brewers yeast, lactation cookies, etc. The good news is that after just 3 days of EPing (and supplementing formula when I don't make enough breastmilk), LO gained 8.5oz!!! That makes it all worth it.

I feel for you... my little girl has a cleft lip and palate so I she cad be tough during feedings lasting 45 minutes and then I have to pump all the time so pumping is around a half hour or more. She was loosing weight so now I'm on a two hr feeding schedule and as soon as I'm done it's almost time to start over again. Plus I'm raising her alone... pumping feels so sterile I feel like agriculture ? She is worth it though! ??

My lo is 2w 3d old and hasn't gotten back to her birth weight. Had another weight check today and she gained an ounce and a half in 2 days. Ped wants an ounce a day gained. I am exhausted and overwhelmed and worried and all this triggers my body image issues so I lost it in the ped office just crying like a fool. I have gigantic boobs (36E before my last pregnancy, 38H in between pregnancies but a 40K when nursing) and flat nipples and have always hated it. It's ironic I always wanted a reduction but never did it in my younger days (when my parents insurance would have paid for it!) bc I wanted to be able to breastfeed someday. Well, it's someday and I haven't been able to get any of my babies to latch. This is my last baby. I'm just having a hard time dealing with all the feelings associated with everything. So now the plan is to alternate 2-3oz of breast milk and formula each feeding. I'm going to keep pumping and try to build up my supply bc I only make 2oz every 3-4 hours.

Her doctor was concerned about weight when she was 4 days old. But that's when they loose their weight. She was a good little eater with lots of poopy diapers. So I gave her a week and she was exactly where the doctor wanted her to be with no formula or pumping even though formula supplementation was recommended.

Make sure the baby isn't too warm when nursing to keep them awake. How old is the baby?

She sleeps decently at night swaddled in the cosleeper. And when dh is home he helps. It's during the day that's the problem.

Hopefully the pumping and supplements of BM will boost your supply and baby will start gaining, then you can get back to EBF in a week or so. I know your pain, I had to do that with DD#1.

I'm almost in the same boat. She's such a lazy eater and falls asleep within 5 min and when dealing with my 2.5 yo when he's not in daycare it's hard. So now when I feed, I put her on one side and pump the other side. When that side is empty I switch, then feed her what I've pumped. It cuts down on so much time. And do you swaddle yours? That helps mine a lot. Throughout the night when I put her back in her cosleeper she'll move around a little or make some noises but, I know she's fully fed and dry, and will go back to sleep.
