Toby was the same with straight full cream milk. I switched to A2 cows milk for about 6 months and the difference was amazing. He was fine with custard and cheese etc so just went with the A2 cows milk. After 6 months I tried him back on normal milk and he was fine again.

My daughter had constipation issues due to a CMPI & we ended up putting her on A2. Lactose intolerance causes diarrhoea rather than constipation so I'd be leaning more towards trying A2.

My son did the same and he has lots of fibre in his diet so i started adding a little water to his milk bottles and his fine now.

My son will projectile vomit everytime i gave him medication to help with constipation and it was a nightmare getting him to take it

My son can only have A2 milk anything else and his constipated really bad.

My son is 3 now and has had A2 milk since just after 1. When he has regular milk at other people's homes ( not often ) he gets constipated still.

I'd go with A2 full cream milk.

I'd say give the A2 milk a go as it is gentler on their tummies.

Also make sure you give enough fibre rich fruit and veg (pears, dates, prunes ect)

It can take them a while to get use to any new food, that includes milk.

The fact that they love water is great. You can also water milk down slightly of they are having a whole bottle and even add some malt extract (you can get it from woolies) it's a very gentle natural softener (so it softens the poop rather then a laxative that stimulates the bowel) so kind of works like prune juice, which is another thing you can try but I find my kids hated the taste lol. Some kids love it though.

And if it keeps up I would go see your GP to check for allergies/intolerances also just to be safe.

do you think he needs milk bottles still? or is it more of a comfort thing?

if it's not a comfort thing, I'd try and cut back (if you haven't already) and substitute the bottles for yoghurt or other calcium enriched foods and see how he goes.

if it's a comfort thing and you don't think he's ready to wean off of the bottles just yet, definitely give goats milk a go. it may take some convincing as it's such a different taste but it's so much more gentle on their tummies. I think out of all the different types of milk out there, you're best off giving goats milk over a lactose free one (especially if he tolerates other dairy products fine) or a nut based 'milk'.

I was just offering suggestions because I have known a few kids becoming constipated after switching to cows milk and just needing some time to adjust. I have no idea how long it can or should take.

Maybe he does need something more like lactose free? But I suggest talking to a dr though before doing that though coz I was told by my dr that if you don't have an intolerance or allergy to lactose/dairy, it shouldn't be removed from diet. I would also assume that if he doesn't have the same reaction from things like cheese and yoghurt and didn't have a problem with normal formula, perhaps it isn't a lactose problem? I'm no dr though.

How many bottles or milk is he having per day?

Our paed also stated that almond/coconut/rice milk etc shouldn't be used as a complete milk supplement.

I'd maybe try a2.

Lactose free full cream long life milk. My little one is allergic to the protein in something in normal milk she used to always have an upset belly from constipation to diaherria always crying and needed to be held nothing would help from the moment I put her on formula. She would always get bad rashes too. Finally I switched her to lactose free formula and when it came time I switched her to lactose free milk, it's weird because she can have other dairy and she's fine like yoghurt ice cream etc, then when I put her in daycare they said something about a1 or a2 protein and gave her a2 (I think) bottles, and she was fine. Anyway after my novel, I put her on lactose free milk ages ago and had a completely different girl and she's thriving, but she isn't actually lactose free just a protein in normal milk makes her pretty sick X

Joy, it's been 4 weeks and he's still not used to it. How much longer am I suppose to give it? I've tried watering it down and it's the same effect. I've also been getting mixed reviews on the Internet regarding almond milk having calcium. Although it obviously doesn't have as much as regular cows milk, it still has calcium in it. I don't know, this is why I'm here asking lol. I want an alternative to cows milk that will meet the requirements for him.

Zazu, yeah I'm not overly fussed on the taste of almond milk either, but then again my son will drink straight prune juice which I think is disgusting, lol, so everyone has different tastes.

Almond milk isn't milk, it's essentially almond juice. It's not a good course of calcium, which is the main reason we give our kids milk

I just checked my carton and it says

' not suitable as a complete milk food for children under the age of 5 years'

I would just check with your dr.

I use almond milk for my smoothies. It doesn't taste great so I can imagine your son enjoying a cup of it.

Sometimes it takes a little while for their stomach to get used to it too. Maybe water it down for a little while?

I don't think almond milk is a proper substitute for s 1 year old. I remember reading it on my carton of almond milk.

Clo, yep, he loves water. He has a fair amount. He has a sippy cup at every meal time and I offer it throughout the day.

You could maybe try the a2 milk first? Still tastes the same apparently
