Senior year in high school 15 miles outside of D.C. Our school went on lockdown but my friends and I left and sat in a ton of traffic to get to my house where we all just sat and watch the tv in disbelief. My neighbor worked at the pentagon right in an office that got hit. Luckily he decided to skip work that day and play golf. I have family in NY. It was surreal to see everyone so scared and quiet. A lot of parents worked in the pentagon some never came home. You could see the smoke from our house.

I was either in kindergarten or 1st grade. We had just gotten to my school, I was late because we went to Dennys for my mothers birthday. We were in the office when it showed on the tv.

I was in grade 12 and on spare. A girl ran by down the hall yelling about world War III and to come to the art room. I live in Ontario but classes were still cancelled so we could watch I the art room or the gym. I still get teary thinking about it

I was 19 going on 20 and I was going for a run whole it happened. I remember my bf at time called me repeatedly til I answered and I was annoyed that he kept calling.

I was a freshman at Virginia Tech and woke up to the sound of jets scrambling overhead.

Everyone was panicked because no one could reach their families who lived/worked in DC, and also in NYC. It took me 5 hours to confirm my dad was alive.

I'm on the west coast, so by the time we were up for school the attacks had already happened. I remember my first period teacher just turning the tv on to the news and that's all we did in his class that day.

I was in science class I think in 3rd grade. I remember the teachers turned on the tv and we watched it.

I lived in Colombia when the attacks happened. I was in 7th grade. They turned on the TVs at school and everyone was watching :( it was really sad.

I was getting ready for school. I was in 4th grade. My dad was trying to get through to my grandparents because they were supposed to leave that morning from Logan airport in Boston to go to Italy. We didn't know if they were on one of the planes. Thankfully a few hours later we heard from them and they were on lockdown in the airport. We just watched the news all day in school.

I remember my brother waking me up and telling me about it. I come down stairs and mom is crying saying they are on their way to a huge building near dads work (dad was a firemen). I freaked out. The plane never made it and crashed before getting to that city. Scariest day of my life and wishing my dad was home. He finally called us hours later saying he was safe & sound.

I was a high school freshman and had stayed home sick that day. My dad worked on the air force base near us and it was locked down. He was didn't get home until hours after his normal off time.

I'm in the UK but it was all over the news here. It was afternoon for us when it happened.

I remember getting home from school (I'd just started 6th Form the week before), walking into my parents living room & seeing dad on the phone whilst watching the events on tv. Not comprehending what was happening was real life, I thought it was a film & asked dad what he was watching.

I soon realised it was the actual news.

I was in 7th grade math class. I remember the teacher getting a phone call and dismissing us for the rest of the day. Just telling us all to please go home, and that buses would be there shortly for people who needed them.

I had no idea what was happening until I walked into my house (since most people didn't have cell phones) and I saw what was happening on tv.

I was in first grade on our way to school when the school district put out a call that school was cancelled and we had no idea what was going on till all radio stations put out coverage on what was happening. I was to young to fully understand what was going on.

I was in my 10th grade computer lot class. We were watching channel one news and the news stayed in all day. Girls were crying and it was horrible to find out all those lives were lost. My condolences to everyone who lost someone that day or in the days that followed.

I was in 10th grade Spanish class and I didn't realize ppl were in the buildings when I was told about it. I thought it was an accident and the people got out before hand. Naive I know. Then when it hit me, and I saw video I was in shock.

I was in 6th grade, the teacher had the radio on, she stopped the class to listen, and then said her mom or aunt was on her way there to visit. (I'm in Canada) I didn't really know what the twin towers were and what was happening until I came home from school and that was all there was on every tv channel.

I was in 5th grade. We were watching it on tv all morning until they sent us home around 12. I was freaking out because my parents were on a cruise at the time and I didn't fully understand what was happening. They ended up not being able to dock back in the US for 2 weeks due to everything being shut down. I will always remember watching coverage of the first plane hitting and then all the sudden, the 2nd plane hit on live tv. I just can't imagine how anyone in the buildings and on the planes felt at that time. Seeing people jumping from windows was heart breaking. All of the people who lost their lives and families, all of the people who fought overseas afterwards. It really is a significant mark in history that our children will read about one day.

I was getting ready to go to school, 10th grade lol , man I'm old lol I would watch the news while getting ready and I saw the second plane hit the towers it was crazy.

I was 11 years old, 6th grade, in math class. An accouncement came on the speakers and our teacher put on the TV in the classroom. The majority of our class got taken home by their parents. I remember one boys mom came to get him, and he chose to stay in school because he felt safer in the big building with everyone. My mom didn't pick me up. I just remember being scared and confused.

I was a few weeks from having my first, sat at work and devastated for everyone it touched or who died. Little did I know how much it would shape the world we live in and how I do my job today

I was a freshman in English class. The principal made an announcement and all the teachers turned on the news. We watched the second one hit. It was very surreal. I can't believe it's been 16 years.

I was a sophomore. I remember going to school, putting my stuff in my locker and seeing a teacher watching a plane crashed into the tower. I remember thinking "wow what a freak accident". It wasn't until I got to class I realized what happened.

The rest of my class treated t like a "hey we don't have to do anything today" kind of thing, as all the teachers had the news on all day. I was just so sick to my stomach. I don't know if it was because I was the only military kid, but I couldn't help but thinking "last time something like this happened it brought us into a world war. This is going to get really ugly here soon". And it did.

Era: it was the first time in my life I went home and voluntarily watched the news. I watched all day just sick to my stomach. That's when I first really got into government and politics ect.

I was a senior in high school in Brooklyn. This girl came in late to first period. She walked in and our teacher asked why she was so late and she said she got stuck on a train because a plane hit the twin towers. We all just stared and moments later an announcement was made on the PA system. It was pandemonium and there were kids just collapsing in the hallways because they had family in the towers. Both my sister's worked there and I managed to get in front of a tv just in time to see the second plane hit. I was numb. My mom and brother managed to find me and get me home. Both my sisters survived as well. I hate today.

I was a freshmen in high school. I remember sitting in the library and the principal telling everyone over the intercom to turn on the tvs and stay where they were. My dad works for the govt and called my phone and told me it was a terrorist attack and they were afraid of biological weapons and more attacks. This was before the second tower was hit. It was terrifying!! Such a horrible event! Prayers for all those that lost family and friends, and the first responders that have suffered since that time.

Today's actually my moms birthday. But at the time I was in kindergarten and I don't remember much, we all got sent home though

I was apartment hunting. It was my day off work and i was in Chicago. I walked into building to get a tore and the manager had the news on. It was so horrible. I couldn't believe what i was seeing.

In class at the local community college. I just found out, went to my first class and nobody in there knew yet. I left the class because I couldn't just sit there and act like nothing was happening. Went home and watched the second plane hit on tv, thought it was all an accident until that happened, then it got scary. It was one of the most surreal days of my life. My neighbor was at the WTC that day for a work training and unfortunately had to experience it all first hand, but he survived.
