Was I mean?

Don't know if anyone remembers my crazy neighbor rant a while ago but we finally moved. Well the neighbor has a brother we will call D who is younger and lazy! He has a wife and they are both 20 I believe. Well there have been times where they call or text dh asking to borrow money. Dh always said no. One time he even texted dh asking for 250 to adopt a dog because he was at a kill shelter. We had a chevy blazer and D's mil needed a vehicle so Shen bought it the blazer for 1000. Dh bought it for 1300 so he had already lost 300 plus little things he did to it. We even let her donut in payments. Well right before the last payment she they all took turns calling dh telling him the 4x4 went out. When we sold it to them we showed them that everything engaged fine. She wanted us to give her a discount on it because she had to put money in to it. We said no tough luck things happen with cars and if they wanted a car with warranty to go through a dealer. Well hey finally paid it off and we no longer even see them at all we don't even live close to them. Well he D just texted asking me to lend him $20 because he was stuck in town. I said no I'm sorry. We are not an ATM you can just ask for money from. We have worked very hard for our money.

No, it's not mean at all. It's the truth. This person is old enough to work and to know better. You're also not his mother. If he needs money, he can work. He can get robbed ANYWHERE, not just at work, so his reasoning is flawed. I would just ignore his texts from now on.

Seems like you've done a lot for them already. You're not being mean, you're finally putting your foot down. "D" needs to get a job.
