CNA beat grandma in nursing home

Trigger warning

Комментарии

I work as a CNA and this breaks my heart. I wont sit here and say every single patient i get is wonderful but Id never be able to hurt someone who cant defend themselves. Its sickening. I had a resident a few months ago who didnt speak any english and this reminded me of her. She was the kindest lady and i made sure to look out for her because some of our staff was just plain rude because it took an extra 5 seconds to use the translator she had. All of you are right, some people have no compassion. Im glad that woman was fired.

So terrible ? my sister works for seniors (she's like cps of older people) and the stories I hear are awful. I'm glad something was done about the situation. Your poor grammy ?

I'm happy they did something for you. My great grandmother just passed away 2 weeks ago. She was molested in her nursing home about 5 months before she passed away, by the directors 17 year old son, who liked to "help out" when they were under staffed. She called her daughter, my grandmother, and told her about it the day it happened. My grandmother went down there right away and talked with the director and the son and no one did anything about it. She finally met with the owner of the home and told them that if something wasn't done she was going to the news station. She ended up calling the police and they made them call the families of all the elders living there and tell them what happened. Apparently it was happening for over a year and the residents were filing complaints. But since it was the directors son, nothing was done. Said that the complaints were inconsistent. Once the news station got ahold of it all the families pulled the elders out of the home and they were shut down. You don't think that it will happen to your family but it happens more than we know.

Thank you ladies. I just wish people would understand no one wants to end up in a nursing home. My grandma was so active and had her own store in Mexico, was always cooking, took great care of us and suddenly overnight everything changed. I understand it must be difficult to work as a cna and be overworked but it's not the patients fault. My grandma broke down when the police asked for her statement, she said she was so sad she couldn't defend herself and was embarrassed. Thank you ladies again for letting me vent. I will look into setting up some sort of camera in her room

Your poor grandma ? That's ridiculous anyone would do something like that. People can be so disgusting and cruel at times

I'm a charge nurse in a nursing home and these stories just make my blood boil. I've never had a CNA physically abuse someone, but I've dealt with some verbal abuse & neglect cases. Its disgusting. Go after that CNA every way you possibly can.

Only the scum of the earth would hurt an elderly person. I'm sorry you're going through this. I can only imagine how hard it was for you to control your impulses. Not sure I could've done that. Let karma take care of that garbage.

I'm so sorry for your poor grandma ??? people are so mean these days.... I would've punched the lady ?

That makes me so mad!! I was a cna in a nursing home for a few years and never wanted to hurt anyone. It sickens me to think some people actually do hurt residents. My grandpa is in a nursing home and I would kick some ass if anyone ever hurt him. Being a cna is no easy task. You're underpaid, sometimes short-staffed, under appreciated, etc. It really does take a special person to work in a nursing home. I hope your grandma is ok and I'm glad that awful person was fired!

If you can swing it, camera in the room. I am appalled at some of the videos out there of aids and how they treat patients. My gram was in a nursing home. Her bed mate had some type of stomach disorder and the night shift got tired of answering her call bell so they pulled it out of the wall. The poor lady had an episode and her and her bed were covered in stool. She kept trying to put her light on to get help but no one would come. Finally my gram realized what happened and put her light on. But that was horrendous to me. Why get a job as a cna if you don't want to take care of people? There are wonderful cna aids out there. And some that should be anywhere near other people, let alone taking care of them. But if my loved ones needed a nursing home, I would invest in a camera right away and set it up.

I Worked as a cna, and reported one because while I was in the room, the residents complained of her feet hurting and the cna goes, "you deserve every inch of pain you are in."

Once I reported it, I was brought in, the aide was brought in, the resident was too. They let her off because it was a dementia patient and it didn't cause any emotional harm as she didn't remember it.

Im.glad they fired her OP. I'm sorry you are going through this.

I've been a CNA for many years and this kind of thing shakes me to my core! I reported a staff member for physical abuse last year and the state investigated. I never found out what came of it.

The problem w the situation I found myself in is that I often work with dementia (memory impaired) patients. They can't always recall specifics. It's so sad. But I'm so happy that your grandma spoke up! More often than not these poor people are too afraid to report their abusers.

Praying for justice for your family! ??????

I'm a supervisor of CNA's, thankfully I've never known any of my staff to be physically abusive but I have witnessed them talking to them disrespectfully (without them realising I was listening) and have come down on them like a ton of bricks!

No elderly or disabled person should be spoken to differently than people would speak to their own family, never mind physically or mentally harming them!

I'm glad you went to stand up for her, you hear too many stories of people not having anyone to be a voice for them and the abuse goes unnoticed or doesn't get dealt with

Good job Hun x

I'm so sorry to hear what happened to your grandma. Ppl who hurt elderly and young children are absolute scum. Its great she had you to stand up for her.

I'm so sorry your grandma had to deal with that and the CNA was rightfully fired.

I use to work as a CNA but i had to quit because the treatment some people would get. The attitudes of some nurses and CNAs made me sick.

I would report things and people would call me a "snitch" or "I'm trying to get people in trouble" or "I'm waking around trying to be an angel". Three years of having a target on my back for doing my job was enough to leave. There are good CNAs out there though.

I hear horrible things about nursing homes, it makes me so sad ? I'm so sorry that happened to your grandma

This is why my Suegra's side of the family is so afraid of putting grandma in a nursing home? she doesn't speak English and shes starting to mentally go a little bit. I don't see how someone could do that to a little lady. Glad the CNA got what she deserves. I hope your grandma can get back to her routine after something like that.

I use to be a CNA and I absolutely loved my residents. Apparently, they loved me as well. I was ran ragged by them because they insisted I care for them when they weren't even on my hall. Or in the cafeteria they would all call for me and then request I shower them. Seriously, they would refuse anyone but me if I was working that day. I really hate so much that something like this happened to your grandmother. It really takes a special type of person to work as a CNA, especially in nursing homes. I always tell myself I will NEVER put my parents in one after working there because not all people are working there because they care but more so for the pay check. I was 17 when I got my CNA. I was also spoiled by my dad so I wasn't working there just for the money. If I wanted a job for a little spending money then I could've worked at McDonald's. Honestly the pay isn't even much better than McDonald's. I actually had a real passion caring for those old folks. Then I had kids and basically it's the same. Lol but seriously, I'm so sorry. I want you give your grandma a nice big hug!

I'm so sorry that happened. I just teared up reading this. Truly awful!

What a sick human being. I'm so glad your grandmother was able to tell you what had happened, think of all of the vulnerable people she harmed that couldn't tell anyone. I hope she rots in jail, gets scabies and MRSA, and goes blind from jail lead paint. ?

It's seriously all I've been thinking about all day. I started crying telling the administrators what had happened and asked them how they would feel if it was their mother or them in the situation. Mu heart is broken for her but she knows I will always be there to defend her and take care of her no matter what.

That's disgusting. I'm so glad she was able to communicate what happened to her and you were able to step in immediately. I hope she recovers well ?

that's so sad!! I am a CNA myself and I refuse to work in nursing homes around my area because I have seen first hand how they treat their patients on a daily basis! some people have no heart and are in the wrong field of work! I have flipped out on countless people for the way they treat the elderly. I now do in home health care or work at hospitals.

I'm so sorry your grandmother was treated like that, nobody deserves to be abused by the person they're relying on. ?
