is it rude?

To ask how somone passed away?

Maybe. It depends on how close you are to them.

There are some close friends of mine who have died and I still to this day don't know how they died because the parents or family members don't want to release details. So to be respectful, I don't ask. And that's to people I KNOW. Strangers? Yeah, no, they'll tell you if they wanted you to know.

When I lost my son this girl on Fb tagged my timeline and asked if it hurt losing the baby... ???... Like seriously? Not even a week later and that what you choose to say to me..?

I would never ask a stranger something that personal and if a stranger asked me something like that my reply would be "none of your f*** ing business"

I'd say if you didn't know the person then yes. Also if it was a recent death. Like I know someone who passed and that day people were asking how.

My partner passed away 3 years ago by suicide. When people I don't know ask me how he passed, I don't know I get somewhat offended. It's like you know nothing about me yet you want to know how he died? It's best not to ask, you don't know the other persons reaction.

I wouldn't ask a stranger

Pps the reason she brought it up was because I was wearing a hoodie that said Alaska. She asked where from and I just said my dad brought it for me when he visited. She then said how she lived there for 27 years and moved away. I asked if she liked living there and that's when she said yes but had to move away when her husband and daughter passed. This was after we had paid and left tip. We were cleaning up Ds mess he made under the table lol.

I almost wonder if she said that hoping for a bigger tip. I really hope that isn't the case but what a strange thing to tell diners that your serving at a restaurant ?

Oh and yes I think it is rude in some cases. Depends on how the conversation has started, how long the person has been known etc.

One person here made a habit of it ?

She murdered them and she fled Alaska she maybe one of FBI s most wanted soon did you snap a picture of her I'm sure she changed her identity and her hair ☺. Yes it's rude to ask but seeing as how she offered to tell her information and didn't give an explanation. Just assume they died of "natural causes"

I don't think it's rude if you ask in a respectful way, but I do feel it's unnecessary to ask. Like pp said, people tend to break down when they have to give details of something so hurtful. I know I do.

No

I agree with Smitty, if you don't know her I wouldn't ask. If she wanted to open up and talk about it she probably would have.

I wouldn't ask. Not that I think it's rude but I know when we went through 2 unexpected deaths a couple of years ago, when someone asked about it, I broke down. I could say they died but I couldn't say how.

It always bothers me when people ask how someone died on bb - especially kids. I just want to say leave it. If they want to give information they will - In their time as is their right...but I don't need to know and it won't make anything better. I hate to say nosey...maybe morbid curiosity? Either way, it feels off to me.

I wouldn't ask but I would wonder.

I thought so, just didn't know since she just started telling us on her own. But didn't want to ask any way

I feel like it's one of those things they'd just offer to tell if they wanted to. I wouldn't ask.

I would say yes. But I am a private person when it comes to things very close to me.

If it is someone I know, I try to ask a mutual friend or family member that would know for sure.

I wouldn't ask in this case.
