My 4 month old nephew was born addicted to opiates and had to be put on morphine. He is my brothers 3rd child and they all were taken away after that. My brother and his gf have been on pills for years now It has messed our family up so bad.

This is horrible. My SIL is a foster parent to newborn babies of drug addicts. These babies have such horrible problems from what their parents did while pregnant with them. My SIL has adopted several of these babies that were in her care. The youngest is now three and she was with them from day 1. She suffers seizures, hearing loss, breathing problems, near blindness, digestive issues and many other problems that she should NOT have. It's not fair to these children to have to suffer for their parents irresponsible and selfish actions. It's hard to see this little girl in and out of the hospital several times a month from new and reoccurring problems. It's very sad indeed. ?

This is why I believe that anyone who biologically parents a child born addicted to drugs should be sterilized. Especially the mother. If the father is a drug addict and cannot straighten his s*** up, sterilize him also. They do not deserve to have a child and a child does not deserve to feel pain the first few weeks of it's life because of selfish scum called it's "mother"

This is such a sad situation. One of my aunts had a child when she got married and her and her husband got into drugs. She would drop off her son to my grandparents to do drugs and eventually stopped coming back for him. She got a divorce. The dad is no longer in the picture and my grandparents now have custody of her son. She then got pregnant again. Her second son was born addicted to drugs. Cps wanted to take the child away. My aunts mom wanted to keep the child and gain custody. They are old, in their 60's and my grandfather did not want custody of the child. It was a hard decision for him to make but he thought the child would be in better care with a loving functional family. One of my uncles and his wife wanted the child Becusse they were having problems ttc. They discussed it and surprisingly found out the wife was pregnant. Then My grandfathers wife went behind his back and discussed options for the child. Now my aunt lives with them and is not allowed to be unsupervised around either of kids ever. It's such a sad sad situation. The older one is 6. And can you imagine the things he thinks. Like why wasn't his mom there for him and now she's there for this new baby. Why does he have to ask his grandparents for everything. Why can't his mom decide things for him. It's all very confusing and you can see the toll it has taken on the oldest child and my grandparents. And my aunt still does drugs. They are drugs prescribed to her but she doesn't take them as directed.

I really feel for children in these types of situations and I hope for this baby's sake everything turns out well for him.

@blue

That's how it is where I live. Typically, the parents are given AMPLE opportunity to be worthy parents before foster care is used.

The parents ( my cousin and gf) fight constantly. They had a court hearing about a month ago regarding their daughter and now son. They had 3 months to turn their life around. Get a job, place, not get in any trouble and be screened for drugs. They failed miserably. Their daughter was already in foster care. Well the judge said they no longer have children when their son would be born cps would be there ready to pick him up. They don't care. And that's the worst part.

What a cute little man.

@Tink

We get a lot of babies that go through this in the area I work in.

Almost all of them get to go home with their parents. It takes some pretty extreme situations in addition to drug use for a child to be given to foster care in my county.

Working with the parents of a baby going through this is very difficult. It is one of the most difficult parts of my job.

When I am very, very angry I respond by crying. ? I have had to excuse myself twice before the angry tears came.

Unfortunately, the parents I have had to work with in these situations are not always the most rational or calm.

@past

Honestly, it's nice of you to ask about the mom at this point, but that would not even make it onto my list of concerns. You have a kind heart.

@Bellas

You asked if OP could take the children....

That is a LOT to ask of a family member who already has their own family to care for. Even when custody of a child is given to someone else, the parents are usually given supervised visitations. The foster parents are expected to cooperate and facilitate these visits, which can be nearly impossible for a family member who has likely been very hurt and very affected by the parents' drug abuse.

Also, I've seen parents take advantage of this type of arrangement and use it to enable their continued drug use and procreation. They often have multiple children while continuing to do drugs and the family member has custody of 5+ kids sometimes. It is very heartbreaking for everyone involved.

This absolutely breaks my heart. My brother in law and his girlfriend were heavy Meth users and she got pregnant. She used throughout her pregnancy. I have no clue how they were able to keep my niece when she was born. They both went to prison about a month after she was born. She's healthy now and I hope this little boy will be too. ?.

Pp when you're a drug addict the last thing on your mind is safe sex. I doubt it was a conscious decision to have a baby when you're f*** ed up you're not thinking birth control, condoms, contraception in general.

After reading this, I went on to YouTube to search babies born with addictions.

I am absolutely heartbroken to say the least. I understand some people really struggle with addiction but why get pregnant and make the choice to have a baby when you have an addiction? Why bring a baby into your sick, twisted world? Why can't they just get clean first before deciding to have a baby?

I am absolutely heartbroken right now and feel like crying my eyes out for this poor little dude and the rest of them I just watched on YouTube. Can't believe how often this actually happens. ??

I sincerely wish there was a way I could adopt him. Poor little baby. My husband and I want a son so bad! We would give him more love than he would know what to do with. :(

I always think this way when I see a baby born to negligent parents. It makes my stomach knot up. This is the one unfair thing in life that I am having difficulty accepting.

Poor thing! There's no one in your family that could take the kids?? How horrible that they have to be in foster care. I'd do whatever in the hell I need to to get custody I couldn't let them stay there.

I agree. It makes me so sad. I obviously can't go into a lot of detail, but I had to testify against a mom whose baby tested positive for meth (I was the lucky one that got to call it into CPS so I was subpoenaed). It broke my heart and made me want to punch her in the face.

That's tragic. I remember seeing on Dr. Phil a video with babies going through withdrawals. I just sobbed. Jennifer Fries, all of the NICU nurses, I don't know how you do it. Especially without knocking the hell out of a parent who cares more about a high than their baby.
