Clomid question
This may be a silly question but do they give you clomid even if you are ovulating regularly on your own and have regular cycles? I think clomid may be the next step for me after ttc#1 for 18months but not sure if it'll help me?
Hi cletakawa, thank you, yes that really has answered my question.
I wish I'd asked for clomid when I had my last appointment with the fertility specialist now. I very nearly did but then decided not to for some reason. My next appt is next month and I'm still undecided what to do...ask for clomid and potentially waste another 6-9 months if it doesn't work for me, or just go straight to iui/ivf which I'll have to pay for but can get started on quite quickly. Hmmmmmmm.......
My doctor did. My AF was 28 days, like clock work and I was ovulating on my own. After over a year TTC my OBGYN suggested clomid because it can cause hyper ovulation in women who ovulate on their own increasing my chances of getting pregnant. First cycle was a bust but I got a BFP the second cycle taking 50 mg on days 5-9. Now 30 weeks with a healthy baby girl. Note: Clomid use in women who ovulate on their own does increase the chance of twins by up to 10%. I am sure that won't be an issue for most but I have problems carrying to full term with just one baby so it was a concern for us, but we have only one :). Hope this answers your question :$
Thank you, yes let's keep in touch. I'm 34 and would love 2 children, so really need to get moving on no.1! Good luck to you too!
Thank you and good luck to you too. I've heard good things about it too, but mainly for ladies that don't ovulate regularly on their own. My only worry, if they were to put me on clomid, is that it could waste a valuable 6-9 months trying something that won't help sort the 'unexplained infertility', when I could've got better results by going straight to iui/ivf. Have my next appointment next month so will chat to the fertility specialist but think she wants us to go straight to ivf and is ready to refer us to a clinic of our choice!
Good luck hun, Ive been wanting to know the same thing. I've been ttc 14 months after a mc and we are waiting on our appointment to see specialist. I've had scans and 21 day progesterone and df has been tested too, all fine apparently :/ I'm wanting to know what will be next..I've heard good things about clomid so I hope I can try that. Good luck x
Hi lolalou sorry just seen your post. I'm ok thank you, 4 more pregnant friends now and on month 21 of ttc. Still no BFP! Have follow up appointment with fertility specialist in 4 weeks, to refer us for iui/ivf. Having to go private, as don't qualify under nhs until we've been ttc for 3 years, so should be able to get started quite quickly. Had HSG last month so hoping that may help me get my BFP this month!
How are you doing?
My proeastrogen level is a little low some months, the average for a lady in her mid twenties to early thirties is apparently 40 according to the consultant, and mine some months has been 26! The clomid will apparently put me into fertility overdrive and increase that level-hopefully xx
Keep me posted 😥
Wow, so within the next 4 months you could well be seeing that lovely word on a stick!! ? Hope clomid works for you!
Thank you for your kind words. I am really excited about our first appointment and am of course counting down the days. If I'm
honest, I'd prefer that it was me that needed a little extra help than dh. They can poke and prod me all they like but I would worry that, if they were doing it to dh, he might change his mind about babies. Silly thinking I know!!
Did they say what their reasons were for putting you on clomid? I ovulate every month but have spotting, then light flow which gets lighter then changes back to spotting, for 2-5 days before AF every month, so hoping that clomid can help me too. ?
Hi hun, they have given me 4 months worth and I have to go for regular scans to make sure I am producing eggs. Not discussed the next step as my consultant is certain this will work so here's hoping x
I know it's hard darlin but stop that talk about 'you being the problem' you just need a little help that's all x stay positive, your appointment is so close, just come out and ask directly 'please can you prescribe clomid' see what they say x do a little homework incase they ask "why" what's the worst that can happen 😌
Here if you need me x
Hoping this is your month lolalou! How long are they trying you on clomid and what are your next steps after that?
Have my first appointment with the gyn in just over a week. Hope they decide to try me on clomid. Dh's SA (according to doc) came back normal. Morph only 5%, but rest of numbers the high side of normal. Gonna see if gyn agrees that 5% is normal though. So it must be me with the problem and hoping they'll start to take some action, cos it's been a long and hard 18 months!
I kept getting the exact same response from my docs. They'd change the referral criteria every time and I got v annoyed by it. I just kept going back to different docs until I got a result. Sounds like its quite quick since your first referral which makes me v happy! Thank you for all your help and advice. Let me know how your final results go. ?
Hi, I went to my GP about a year ago so not that quick. I really had to push mu GP to see a fertility specialist, they kept saying give it another 3 months and come back. The last time I just broke down in the docs office and I was referred about 4 months ago! Fingers crossed x good luck to you my darlin. Just holler if you need me 😉
Thanks for the info lolalou. That's really good to know.
I'm I'm the uk too and have my first appt with the fertility specialist 8 may. Dh is having sa done in a couple of weeks. Very nervous to hear the results. Just hope and pray that we at least have options.
Do you mind me asking how long ago you had your first appt? It sounds like things are being done nice and quickly for you ?
Hi. I have had the same tests twice so they can check the continuity - bloods to check hormone levels on cd3, 11 and 23. I have also had a dye test where they put dye into the neck of your womb to see if it spills into ovaries and it was all clear. Hubby has been tested twice also. I live in Cheshire in the UK and there is only a waiting list of a few months so quite quick xxx
Good luck for your ivf lolaloo! Will your treatment start quite quickly after you get your final results? Do you mind me asking what tests that have done so far? I've had bloods and u/s and not sure if hsg is the next step for me.
Thank you vey much for your replies, you've given me hope that there may be some steps we can take before IVF (if there is any hope that we'll be able to conceive). GL to you both ?
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
Short Luteal Phase?
I've just started temping because I believe that the reason I haven't had a BFP yet, after 20 months, is because I believe I may have a Luteal Phase Defect.

So I managed to persuade my re to prescribe clomid. Have been given 50mg to take in cd2-6. Re said there's no proof that it increases your chances if you have regular cycles and o on your own. I hope that it does for me, I'm willing to try anything after this long!!!
