Rant - don't do this while pregnant

Smoking mothers are more likely to have a baby pass from SIDS - that's just a fact as that mother deprived there baby's lung development (along with everything else) in the womb!

So yes majority of the time SIDS is a tragic unexplained heartbreakingly sad event

But there are preventative measures we can take and some SIDS incidents could be avoided!

I agree faithless completley, I guess I just get urked over the subject in general. Whenever I see the letters SIDS I should just move on.

Coco, SIDS is a terrible, terrible thing Hun. And no matter what research and common sense you try to use, as you know, it's some random horrible, heartbreaking event and is no-one's fault.

Suffocation, accidents or bad parenting happens but that's not SIDS. But as long as we don't act recklessly, things like deli meats, a cup of coffee here and there etc are not reasonable dangers.

I had my baby next to me and hubby had just fed him 10 mins before he died from sids. Being able to see whats going on shouldnt be a comfort and a lot of women dont use common sense or research what could help prevent it because of the "it wont happen to me" attitude that I once had too.

I think it's easy for women to say these things on BB because they don't have to say it to your face. They post and run. Wonder if they act the same in real life, I'm guessing not.

Look at the differences between pregnancy advice between developed countries and then look at the infant mortality rates. Here in the UK the precnancy "can and can't do" rules are pretty mild compared to other places.

Eggs? Yummy. Go ahead.

A sip of wine? Okie dokie, just don't go crazy.

Deli meat? What's the problem?! Go ahead.

Coffee? Enjoy. I'll have one too.

Soda? Make mine a coke.

Junk food? MacDonalds does a mean cheesburger!

Prenatal vitamins? Main result is expensive urine but take em if you want. Or not. Your choice.

Like fish? So do the Japanese and they still have kids.

As long as your food is manufactured according to the regular strict health and hygiene recommendations then any risks are minimal to say the least.

I think everyone has certain things they do, that other women wouldn't do.

Like, I'll drink two Dr. Peppers in a day and eat deli meat but you couldn't pay me to even miss ONE day of taking my prenatals or iron, lol.

Everyone is different :) I can't judge anyone for what they do unless it's just something completely insane that will obviously hurt your baby.

I think for a lot of women they are comfortable with those risks because the baby is actually here and they are able to see if anything is going wrong. Know what I mean? When you're pregnant, until baby is born you don't know if what you are doing is actually causing harm or not. That being said, I drink caffeine, eat deli meats, and take loooong hot baths amongst other things. I think the women on here who preach that they don't are either liars, or have a huge stick up their ass. Lol

I agree. I never take my son out of the seat until he wakes up. Apparently it can close off the airway especially when they are really young. My point was that it's a don't just like eating deli meat but people are more comfortable with the risk. Also just like other donts not all doctors agree I see.

In 97, my dr was from Africa. He told me he would rather me drink a glass of wine or a wine cooler than stressed out with high blood pressure. He even said pot was ok in moderation. Literally the only thing I ate my entire pregnancy was cereal and drank soda. I firmly believe as long as you get the ok frm dr and they know whats goin on then you are ok. I know too many ppl that did everything by the book and their kids have allergies, cry or cried constantly and issues later on. Im not perfect and neither are my kids. I used to dip both their pacifiers in soda if they were crying while driving. My daughter had 3:1 apple juice at a week old. She had cereal in her bottle and with a spoon by a month. My son was 20lbs before a year old so he was too big for rear facing car seat. I feel so bad for the ftms that go into panic mode. Trust your gut. And dont let some high and mighty woman make you feel like less of a parent.

My ped. actually suggested a car sear, swing, or infant bouncer for sleep. He said it keeps them on their back and elevates them so theyre not flat on their backs but still safe. He said that and a paci can help reduce the chances of sids. Trust me I have done almost 2 years of sids research.

Since when is it dangerous for an infant to sleep in a carseat? If they're tired, I'm not gonna wake them up.

agreed! the car seat was the only place ds would settle for sleep for the best part of 3 weeks! bad mum alert right here...

Agreed. hypocritical actually lol. they fuss about some caffine but fills baby crib with stuffed animals & blanketslol crazy. i live off sweet tea!!

oh, I drink coffee too.... Everyday 2 cups. sometimes a 3rd. lol.

I eat deli meat, drink caffeine eat seafood, take hot showers, use a heating pad, and due my hair I must be horrible

Agree, I hate when people act like they r dying or have some disease. Hello people women have been having babies forever. I think some of the stuff that research says is bad is a crock. jmo. ps, I still eat deli meat. Did with my son n he is fine n healthy and 6yrs old.
