Pre-K/Head start

I received notice in the mail today that my oldest is eligible for Pre-K this fall. He's 3 right now, will be 4 in December. I'm not really sure how I feel about it. Right now I'm working and my SO is a stay at home dad while he attends classes. He goes to class every evening after I get home from work. He's set to finish classes in July and then we were hoping to switch it up and I would stay home and he would work. We also have a 2 year old and a 1 year old. Would you ladies send you child to Pre-K? He's very smart and inquisitive and I think he would thrive in the environment, but is he still too young? Or am I just being a nervous mommy sending my first off already? Ugh, this is hard.

I would! My girls loved it! The interaction with other children really makes a difference.

I'm in Australia and my dd started at 31/2 and it's been the best thing. She loves it and is having lots of fun learning so much!

I'm a firm believer of getting them in a classroom setting the earlier the better. Both of my girls started nursery school at 2. My now 5 year old (turned 5 in november) is already reading at a 3nd grade level (she's in kindergarten) and does math at a 2nd grade level.

Even if it's just for socialization it's never a negative! Only good can come from it!

My dd is 3 and we opted out of prek 3 and are only going to send her when she is 4. Exactly a year before she starts kindergarten. There's no reason for prek 2 years before kindergarten in my opinion. She has cousins for social plus she goes places that have other children to socialize with like play grounds, bounce house warehouse, Chick-fil-A play and the library. I can also work on learning with her at home. 1 year of prek is enough for our family.

I'm in the UK and Ds is in full time school now at the age of 4. 5 days a week 9-3.

That's a lot for even kindergarteners. :/ the kindergartens here only go from like 11-230, I think.

My issue is not him going at all. It's the fact that it's 9-3 5 days a week. That's a lot of time to be spending in Pre-K for a 3 year old. I can send him 2 years, or I can keep him home this year and send him next year.

I decided to wait until my son turns 4 to enroll him in pre-k. I will only be enrolling him in part time which is from 8-12

Update: spoke with the head of the program today. Its 5 days a week, 6 hours a day. My son is 3. That is a ridiculous schedule for his age. There is no need for 2 years of Pre-K IMO. I'm skipping it this year.

My dd is 4 and the state I live in offers free universal Pre-K...she is so excited to go to "big school"! Dh and I both work and my kids are in daycare already 2-3 days/week so she's ready (in my mind). Plus it will save me a lot of $$ in daycare costs!

Dd is 3 turning 4 in December and she's going starting September. She will go for 2 years before kindergarten. Dd isn't around other kids other than cousins and I want her to be around other kids. It's basically like daycare. She will go 4 days a week 7:45-11:15

Thanks ladies! I'm going to call on Monday and set up an appointment to get more information about it. If its only a couple hours, I think I'll send him.

I wouldn't. But I'm biased. My kids won't be going to school at all.

Is it all day/everyday? I was hesitant about sending DD who turns 4 in August, but the school district we live in has universal pre-k and it's only 2 1/2 hours every day. I've filled out the paper work for her. But they only accept 18 kids for each session (morning or afternoon) so idk if she got in. I really think she'll love it, though I completely understand the hesitations, they are little for such a short time.

I would definitely send him. I wanted to send my son to pre k 3! But he wasn't potty trained in time :( it'll only be half time!

My SIL is a kindergarten teacher and she said there is a significant difference in tje children who attend pre-k and those who don't. Idk if it's different in otjer states but in NYC kids are being taught how to read in kindergarten... i remember when i was in kindergarten many yrs ago it was half day and mostly play time lol

When she turned m 3yrs she went to KG1 (english system) but this year I switched to another school which was an American system and at 4yrs she started pre-k.

I dont see her too young for pre-K and it a good experience for her. She has already been to school at 3 so knows how its goes.

He knows his ABCs and can count, he recognizes number and letters too. I think he'd do well and enjoy it, but pp has a point too. He's only little for so long until he HAS to go to school. If he was in daycare I wouldn't have to think about it. I guess I could just be being selfish and not wanting to lose time with him.

Only you guys know your child and what is best. I personally sent mine so he can get use to a classroom setting before going into kinder, especially being in a private school they are a bit strict, so i wanted to make sure that before i invest over 5k a year that he will be comfortable in that school. He has attended daycare before but the format was more free play than a classroom structure. It took him a while to understand rules, and classroom structure, but now he has the hang of it. I was with him since birth then part time up till 3years old, it was great he learnt a lot from me, but I don't regret sending him, he has grown so much more both intellectually and overall personality. Best of all the bond he has built with his friends is priceless. So, whatever you decided do what you feel is best. Good luck, hun!

I'd send him. Once my son is potty trained and of age, which is 3 or 4 here, he can go too. I want him to be able to socialize outside of home, make friends, and learn.

Here he is too young for the prek (one before kindergarten not 3 yr olds) but theres 2 seperate classes.

My son loves pre k (he just turned 5) he is more than ready for kindergarten now. He can show you numbers, tell time, read some words and so much more. Hes on the school schedule 8 to 3 (hes at the elementary school) so he will be used to it next year. He knows how to stand in line properly walking down the hall. He knows his lunch number by heart. Its just little things they teach them to get ready

We chose not to send our oldest to pre-k. She starts kindergarten in the fall. I have no concerns as to whether or not she is ready. My husband and I believe that our kids are only little for a short time. They only get to be home with us for a short period of their lives. We want them home with us as long as possible before they start to be influenced by the school system.

Am I wrong to be upset? Last night I was running a fever, weak, tired, sore, my left boob feels like it got used as a punching bag. I asked my husband to call out of work today to help me with the kid so I could get some rest. He went to work. I texted him this morning. Part of me thinks I mean. The other part of me thinks I was fine for saying that because he should've stayed home with us.

Pre k and God. Opinions needed.

Pre k and God. Opinions needed. DD is in pre k. They sing a lot of songs every day. DD was singing a song to me and DF that they sing before snack time. It talks about the lord. This pre k is affiliated with a Presbyterian church. When I signed DD up for pre k I asked if they would be doing anything of the sort in class and they said because they are an open church and the school is ran separately they would not be doing anything of the sort. I'm kind of annoyed that they told me they wouldn't and here they are singing a song about it. We are not religious people nor do I have anything against people who are religious but they told me one thing and did another. How would you feel about this?

Is anyone else’s man totally useless? Orrr just mine? My bf doesn’t work because he doesn’t want to, so he stays home with our daughter. Anytime I’m not at work he stays in the other half of the house. I get needing an break, I was the stay at home parent for 3 years. However, if I’m home from work because I’m puking my guts out, one would think it wouldn’t kill him to help out with her. Not yell at me for not cooking anything for her, unloading the dishwasher, or having the one pair of jeans he wants to wear clean. 🙄🤬

Okay ladies I need advice. My husband came home from work a few weeks ago and decided he no longer wanted to be a husband or father. He told me that the kids and I need to leave and if we dont he will no longer pay the Bill's. I am unable to work because of high risk pregnancy. My only option is to move back to ohio and stay with my parents. (We live in Kentucky now) also last weekend I was admitted to the hospital and he was home with the kids...he decided to just walk out and leave them home alone while he went to hang with friends. I'm livid and to the point where I want my children away from him and myself too. Am I wrong for moving so far away?

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?
