Family dilemma! Please help!
Family dilemma! Please help!
Okay ladies here's the deal. My oldest sister is an addict. Pills, heroine, meth, you name it. She has done unspeakable things to support her habit, exposing her two young sons to her behavior. We tried CPS, but they did nothing. She abandoned her sons years ago, and my other sister took them in until their father decided he wanted custody back. He's not the best father in the world, but he's not an addict.

Sounds like a can of trouble. Her story is full of bs.

I say no ! It would be one thing if it was only your sister but her boyfriend you don't know, that's way too risky. I'm the type of person who gives more second chances then people deserve and then end up getting screwed over.. Because I'm saying no means something isn't sitting well with me. Don't feel bad about having to tell her no, her and her boyfriend are adults they should be able to take care of themselves and because they can't shouldn't fall back on you. What would you do if you came home one day and your house was empty because they relapsed and sold your stuff for drug money...

No.

Noooooooooooooooo!
????????
My kids come first
I'd be pissed if they got anything
Not worth it!!

On a few conditions yes I would, her only and not boyfriend, she had to pass a drug test(s) and prove medical issues. Addicts lie, cheat and steal
deleted-user·
Before I'd let either move in I would make rules. Drug tests every few days, if anything goes missing they're both out. If they fail any drug test they're out.
deleted-user·
I get the drug use is dangerous if she's still using but how is hep c a danger to your children?
deleted-user·
You can help her without putting your own family at risk.

The whole story sounds very sketchy.i have a lying drug addict brother too. I dont suggest it but if your even considering helping her tell her to drop the guy then DISCUSS AND ONLY DISCUSs what is going on and what series of events led to her asking for help. Know the situation up and down and have an agreement before you even think about helping her.
deleted-user·
She may be your sister but you have a family to think about. She has done nothing to deserve you opening your home to her and a strange man. Your kids on the other hand have no choice but to live with you and they trust you to keep them safe. Do not let her or anyone else guilt trip you about it. It is not your job to provide housing for your sister.
deleted-user·
No! I would do what I could to help her find arrangements but she would not be in my house until I was sure and even then I wouldn't want her to stay
deleted-user·
Noooooo I'm sorry she should definitely not live with you!! That's very dangerous for your children.
Try to help her from afar but do not let her move in with you. You will regret that ?

Мама двоих (младенец), ждёт третьего
Thanks ladies. I was already going to tell her no, I just feel terrible. I would help her if I could but there's just too many variables. I immediately questioned her on the whole cellulitis thing. She gave me some bs about mosquito bites. Yeah....okay. Seems legit.
It's just rough. I know she did have cervical cancer years ago, and if she truly is dying I'm going to feel like a big pile of ? but my babies are more important to me than anyone else. It's my job to keep them safe at any and all costs and I will do that.

I wouldn't put my family at risk especially if you have children. This is her and her boyfriend's problem. Good luck ? I just feel bad you were even asked this by her...

I'm a nurse and treat patients with different types of cellulitis all the time. Some types are way more serious than others. If he's dying from it, it's very likely he got it from using IV drugs and the infection is in his bloodstream and created bacterial growth on the valves of his heart (endocarditis). They don't sound like people/influences I'd want around my kids, but it's your sister and your kids, go with your gut.
deleted-user·
Cellulitis is entirely treatable. It's not something someone just has for an extended period of time and is "dying" from, in my experience. Not to alarm you, but I often get patients with cellulitis resulting from dirty needles used for IV drugs... Sounds sketchy to me. I'd want to know where his cellulitis was and why it wasn't being treated. And also what the bacteria is. I'd hate for him to bring something like MRSA near your children.
deleted-user·
Um, no. Pretty sure she's lying, for one, cellulitis is only deadly if left untreated. . It's a skin infection similar to staph..she just sounds too toxic to deal with.
deleted-user·
No, no , and hell no! Good luck?
deleted-user·
Nope. No way would I be able to help her if my kids were possibly in harms way. Just have to tell her you're sorry but it's just not going to work out but you would love to help her find the next best living arrangement until she's on her feet. I understand she's blood and you feel bad turning her away, but she sounds like someone you simply cannot trust and that would be enough for me to say no to my blood relative.
deleted-user·
I'm sorry but I couldn't let them into my home where I'd put my family at risk. My husband and children will always come first. I'd try to help my sister by searching other options/resources but there is no way she'd be allowed to live in my home.
deleted-user·
Nope I wouldn't. My reason would be more that I wouldn't want a strange (possibly drug addict) man moving into my home with my kids.
