sleep aids and breastfeeding

What is a good sleep aid while breastfeeding? I took melatonin 5mg for a while and feel like it took forever to fall asleep and felt really groggy the next day. I just got unisom but the pharmacist said the ingredient can dry you up. Are there any other options?

I'm the same way. I can be dead tired and lay in bed for two-three hours before I fall asleep. Reading usually helps a lot. Once my eyes get tired I have no trouble, but some nights that can still take an hour. When I feel it's going to he awhile I'll take the dream water. It doesn't knock me out for the night but I'm at least able to get a few solid hours of sleep before ds wakes up rather than laying here TRYING to sleep. I'm a very light sleeper since becoming a mom, the smallest noise will wake me up.

I'm going to talk to my doctor about falling asleep. I can be exhausted and yet just lay there awake for hours. I was looking into teas but notice alot of them aren't compatible with nursing. Its hard to know what to go by. I was going to try lemon balm or a tea with theanine but it says not to take while nursing, but the girl who works there said she always nurses and takes it. I guess its just about using our best judgement.

Thanks pp, I might look into dream water.I always had a hard time falling asleep but now need to wake up early and its really frustrating. I definitly don't want anything to knock me out cold because sometimes he does sleep with me but usually starts out in his toddler bed. He's also going to be 3 next month. I'm planning on weaning anyway but now I dont feel comfortable taking anything stronger than melatonin while we bed share. I always wake up when he cries to nurse , even when I took 1 nyquil a few days ago for a bad cold and heard him but I never thought about all the risks.

I use dream water. It's all natural (so it says). I'm pretty sure it's just liquid melatonin and valerian root. It takes about 20-30 minutes for me to fall asleep. It doesn't keep me asleep. I still wake up when I need to and I don't have any grogginess.

I agree. I would try some natural remedies first. Unless you have someone to listen to the monitor who you trust. Just in case. There are two unisoms. One type the active ingredient is Benadryl and yes it can dry up your milk. The second type is something I can't spell. I don't know what effect that has on your milk. Or baby.

Short Luteal Phase?

I've just started temping because I believe that the reason I haven't had a BFP yet, after 20 months, is because I believe I may have a Luteal Phase Defect.
