insurance doesn't cover entire car seat replacement?

insurance doesn't cover entire car seat replacement?

My car was rear ended and the damage is under $1000. I did get jolted forward pretty hard but overall we are ok. I have the graco 4 ever seat , my son was rf at the time. I read you have to replace a car seat after an accident. My insurance company said I have to send pictures in and the value they give me would depreciate 10% for every year I had it. I've had it about 2.5 years. I just thought they would cover the entire cost?

You can call Graco's customer service and ask for a letter stating you need a new one. That is what I did and then submitted it to my insurance. They went from saying it wouldn't be covered to covering it 100%. If you have questions check my post about it. All I needed was the letter but my insurance didn't tell me that.

Sorry to hear about your accident and good luck!

I did have a report made but the straps were never cut.I was going through my insurance because they said they would get reimbursed from the other party's insurance after. Im going to call the other insurance directly and ask to speak to a supervisor and be firm that I need a new one. Have a feeling they will give me the whole 10% depreciation crap too but im going to be firm. I bought the 4ever seat thinking it would last years, not just two and have to replace it with a cheaper model. Thanks for the suggestions, going to be take the pictures tommorow. And to the pp who asked im in MA.

If you have a police statement that states that you were not fault you have to go through the other person's insurance for the damages and for you to get your replacement I really hope you called the police to make a report when it happened

Make a big deal out of it. Ask to speak to a supervisor. When I was in an accident (minor fender bender) the other persons insurance refused to cover it. I had a few different representatives and the even the police officer told me the same thing. No damage to the car seat, no replacement. I made a big stink out of it. I purchased a seat and kept the receipt. I asked to speak to a supervisor and they told me to send in. They paid me the full value that same day.

My insurance asked for me to send them pictures of the old seats and their value. Then they told me to buy new seats, send them pictures, and the receipt. They reimbursed me for the full amount of the new seats.

That's lame. My insurance reimburse me for the whole thing and I had it three years. All I had to do was go on the store website I bought it from and tell him the price

Idk what state you're in, but im in CA and have had two car seats replaced by an insurance; regardless of cost!

Also ask to speak to a Supervisor and see if you can get a different answer. When I got into an accident my insurance told me to buy a new one and send them the receipt and the covered the whole amount. They also had me send them a picture of my old car seat with proof the straps were cut so it couldn't be used in the future.

I'd be going through the other person's insurance, not my own.

Yeah I'd contact the other insurance company

Thanks for the replies, I guess I'll have to put the additional 20% in. It just had me surprised because I wasnt at fault at all and it seemed like a big ordeal to the insurance companies, as if its not a necessity. But I appreciate the feedback. Stupid loopholes .

If you were rear ended the other persons insurance should cover it

I would ask the manufacturer for a statement as to why it needs to be replaced and the expiration policy to show that it would have had another 2.5 years left if you hadn't gotten hit. Or go after the other persons insurance to cover it

There is a loop hole to everything unfortunately. :/

I am so incredibly grateful for my best friend. Last night she and I were in a car accident. I was driving and we got hit by a student driver. My car is totaled, I had to come out of pocket for a rental car. Both of my kids car seats were in the car and I’ve been stressing on how to buy new seats for them, she just told me that her and her husband bought us new car seats. I can’t stop crying.
