insurance doesn't cover entire car seat replacement?
My car was rear ended and the damage is under $1000. I did get jolted forward pretty hard but overall we are ok. I have the graco 4 ever seat , my son was rf at the time. I read you have to replace a car seat after an accident. My insurance company said I have to send pictures in and the value they give me would depreciate 10% for every year I had it. I've had it about 2.5 years. I just thought they would cover the entire cost?
I did have a report made but the straps were never cut.I was going through my insurance because they said they would get reimbursed from the other party's insurance after. Im going to call the other insurance directly and ask to speak to a supervisor and be firm that I need a new one. Have a feeling they will give me the whole 10% depreciation crap too but im going to be firm. I bought the 4ever seat thinking it would last years, not just two and have to replace it with a cheaper model. Thanks for the suggestions, going to be take the pictures tommorow. And to the pp who asked im in MA.
Make a big deal out of it. Ask to speak to a supervisor. When I was in an accident (minor fender bender) the other persons insurance refused to cover it. I had a few different representatives and the even the police officer told me the same thing. No damage to the car seat, no replacement. I made a big stink out of it. I purchased a seat and kept the receipt. I asked to speak to a supervisor and they told me to send in. They paid me the full value that same day.
Also ask to speak to a Supervisor and see if you can get a different answer. When I got into an accident my insurance told me to buy a new one and send them the receipt and the covered the whole amount. They also had me send them a picture of my old car seat with proof the straps were cut so it couldn't be used in the future.
Thanks for the replies, I guess I'll have to put the additional 20% in. It just had me surprised because I wasnt at fault at all and it seemed like a big ordeal to the insurance companies, as if its not a necessity. But I appreciate the feedback. Stupid loopholes .
You can call Graco's customer service and ask for a letter stating you need a new one. That is what I did and then submitted it to my insurance. They went from saying it wouldn't be covered to covering it 100%. If you have questions check my post about it. All I needed was the letter but my insurance didn't tell me that.
Sorry to hear about your accident and good luck!
