paragard

Anyone have any feedback about the paragard iud? I know everyone has different reactions but would like to hear some experiences. I am currently on the depo and its not working out at all.

There's no holy grail bc in my opinion . Hormones have their downfalls (stroke , clots , weight gain etc) and iud has their pitfalls . You just have to make the best decision for you ;)

@Rachiepoo- That's awsome to hear you had a good experience with it! Im still breastfeeding so that's one of the reasons i want it. I think i need to stop looking into how many things can go wrong and just try it. The nurse at my doctors said there's a chance it could get embedded which is like my worst fear, but she said she only saw one case in 15 years.hopefully thats true because it made me feel alot better.

I didn't even feel the insertion (I started my period when I walked in the door of the office to get it out in lol ) , having it taken out wasn't awesome but it was like a quick pinch . I had it a little over 3 years , no pregnancy scare , had heavier periods but no cramps hardly . I got it for the no hormones and you Can breastfeed with it .

@mrakowski- i read thats common. At least it seems there are alot less side effects. Its reassuring knowing there are positive experiences with it!

@ ging.dani- i couldnt find your post but found alot of mixed reviews about it on here. you made some very good points that i feel would outweigh the cons.thanks!

I have an old post op. Also my feeling and deciding factor was that most contraception has potential for adverse effects. At least with this.. Should you have them, it can be removed. Depo and other things like tubal occlusion or vasectomy or tube tying are not as easily addressed as far as side effect correction/reversal go so this was my long term winner.

I've had my mine for a year now and so far I like it. It does make my period heavier and last for a little longer.

Thanks for the feedback ladies! Im glad to hear some positives about it after reading so many scarey things that could go wrong. I started having doubts ,but ultimately i want something long term and hormone free. I started looking on the interent and came across people who were saying copper can cause all kinds of negative side effects on the body but not sure how true that is, and i know everyone has different recations.i think i will go through with it.after depo i just dont want anything worse.if that's even possible lol.

@planet- thanks, i didnt realize how much was already posted.

I had the Paragard for 4 years before getting pregnant and I loved it! Other than getting a slightly heavier period when it was in, I never had any unpleasant symptoms on it, never had a pregnancy scare, and the strings were clipped short enough that it didn't bother me or my partner. The insertion hurt a little, but it was mostly just a hard pinching sensation and some light cramping that went away after about an hour.
