biting

My son is ten months and wont stop biting. He has four teeth and he does it constantly. He finds it hilarious. I tried no reaction,a firm no! ,teething rings, and put him in his crib saying no bite. Its been going on for a month but its getting worse. He occasionally will do it while nursing and i try and always keep a straight face but its getting to be too much. Is anybody else going through this? My arms are literally all bruised. I dont know what to do anymore.

I did it with my oldest son and going through it with our 1 year old. We sternly say No, teeth are for eating not biting. With my oldest if was a tap on the mouth and a stern no.

Every parenting style is different. I know some will not agree and that is okay.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies ! I will definitely try the pretend crying see if that works and look into the book and snacks too. I think he has new teeth emerging and since hes got his teeth hes been chomping on everything and anyone. I know this definitely has to be corrected so im thankful to get everyone's input and tips.

Can't recall where I heard this but what I do is pretend to cry. Babies, especially a 10 month old will not get cause and effect. They do understand crying. I read pretend to cry, give your wound attention not the baby. The first time I did it my lo cried and I felt awful but it did curb the biting. it took a couple times.

Talk a lot about what teeth are for, give baby something he can bite. There is a book called teeth are not for buting. At 10 months it is likely teething related. Cold celery or pickles are good options. I don't agree with biting back or punishing with hot sauce especially if you haven't exhausted absolutely ever other option. Good luck.

@fee- yeah my SO lightly bit his hand yesterday not hard at all though but enough for him to realize what happened and fuss for a second. Didn't work, when i picked him up he bit again. I told my SO never to do that again through .i thought it was extreme but i also see why he did it. it gets to that point where enough is enough. Thats why i feel we have to seriously stop this because he has four sharp teeth as it is and my arms are literally covered in bruises and welts. It also seems my son finds all my peaceful corrections quite amusing. :/

I know the uptight moms on here will probably bash me for this (I dont care)... but either bite him back, (not super hard of course) or put a dab of hotsauce in his mouth... IT WORKS!! Good luck, biters need to be corrected ASAP before more teeth come in!! 0_o

@lovestar-yes thats what im going through. he often breaks the skin and leaves welts! Its so painful and annoying. My SO actually suggested hot sauce yesterday but idk how serious he was and id feel bad if i knew about it too. I wish there was a happy medium solution to this.

@bunny-He just tried doing it again and im trying to avoid it but hes so quick! I move my arm he goes for my leg. He thinks its the funniest thing i cant believe im having this problem with a 10 month old. Im always a target too because hes such a high needs baby he always wants to be carried around.what didnt help was we recently moved from my SOs parents house and when he would do it to them they would laugh and say ahh its a zombie baby!in funny voices and i feel like hes still looking for that amusing reaction but now im the one who has to deal with it:/

My youngest he had a biting problem. We tried everything timeouts, firmly told him, yelled, spanking on the bottom. He bit Up until 2 1/2 years. I felt so bad for my older son and daughter and myself. My son would bite so hard he'd break skin sometimes leaving welts every time. My youngest is the only one that I had this problem. With my other children I firmly corrected they stopped. Well anyways this is gonna sound messed up, but my SO put a little bit of hot sauce on my youngest tongue he never ever bit anyone again. I was pretty unset at first when I came home and my SO said he put hot sauce in his mouth, put in my SO his defense his mom did it to him and his siblings.

I'll try that if he does it while nursing. I been putting him in his crib lately anytime he bites but he will do it as soon as i pick him up again. I wonder if he understands things like cause and effect yet.
