Tylenol pm??

Due to my work schedule my sleep cycle is out of whack..Im curious, did anyone take Tylenol pm during pregnancy? I took 1/2 a dose recently and barely felt baby the next day so dont want to do that again. Dr.said I shouldnt take it because its dependancy and that melatonin occasionally is better but im torn because It's a hormone and even says on the bottle not intended for pregnant or breast feeding. Does anyone have experience with either?

What's in Tylenol PM that makes you sleepy is dyphenhydramine. That's the same thing in Benadryl. My doctor okayed it for my hay fever and if I need it occasionally for sleep.

Before I got pregnant I was on a heavy dose of a prescription to help me sleep, I've had insomnia that would keep me up for days since I was 13. I have taken Tylenol PM when I'm in pain and if I'm not I only take the ingredient that comes from the Benadryl. Both are safe and my doctor said it would be better to take a safe medication than take nothing and risk hurting myself and the baby because I'm not getting any sleep. So I've been on it since the beginning of my pregnancy on a nightly basis and my little girl measures perfect and is very active. Sleep is so important Momma! Take it and stop worrying and catch up on your rest ?

I know I would switch but at this point 28 weeks im making the best of it. I now wish I went somewhere where the care was more personable. My doctor is nice and most the nurses are ,I dont know who I talked to but they were unprofessional. Its so busy there so feel like that time I called I just got treated like a number.

Really sounds to me like ur docs office has some heartless workers! I wouldn't even wanna go there anymore if the nurse was so rude. I'm blessed w an amazing nurse! I Jus love her. N my doc also said unisom was safe and dramamine for motion sickness.

thanks thats good to know :) I did hear of unisom being used for morning sickness so maybe its similiar.

I took doxylamine which is an OTC sleep aid. I was actually taking it for my morning sickness which it helped so much with but it helped me sleep also and I just took a half tab because a whole tab made me really sleep lol. It's also in diclesgic (or however you spell it) the new morning sickness drug out

I think Tylenol or benadryl is a better option than melatonin also. I been so restless at night lately and just started getting bad headaches and crazy heartburn(taking tums for that) but its all keeping me up at night When I asked the nurse over the phone she said the dr.said melatonin, I questioned it then she made it seem like im trying to get a fix on Tylenol pm or something and said if im having that hard of time sleeping maybe theres other issues. Either she didnt understand my question or was impatient I questioned its safety idk..but found her unhelpful. Thanks for the reassurance though If I ever need to, will just take 1 and talk to my Dr.at the next appt.due to lack of research I dont feel that comfortable taking melatonin and all the drs and there opinions causes more confusion lol.

Honey, I take tylenol pm, just one at a time tho. All it is is tylenol (which is perfectly safe) and benadryl (which is safe also) it is FINE!!!;-) ;-) don't worry! I've read melatonin is not safe however, but I haven't asked my doc. My doc even told me to try tylenol pm due to my headaches and sleeplessness

Same as PP. Tylenol safe. I think less than 3000 mg a day and Tylenol pm which includes Benadryl but not sure how much per day. I took it for pain and sleep since I work nights. Idk how a doc could tell you no Tylenol pm but yes to Benadryl when that's what's in Tylenol pm. :/ Melatonin is not tested as much so it may not be as safe.

Generally all Tylenol products are considered "safe" for pregnancy, including extra strength, flu, pm, etc. Tylenol pm is great if you are in pain and can't sleep, it has a pain reliever plus sleep aid. However if you're not in pain you can take Benadryl which is the same ingredient in Tylenol pm without the acetaminophen, which with constant use can cause liver damage. Ibprofen isn't recommended because it increases bleeding. Melatonin is a more of a "natural" sleep aide and is still kind of "iffy" by most doctors and isn't approved as a pregnancy safe med by the American pregnancy association. So some doctors approve of some while others don't. I would listen to your dr and then do your own research to see what's best for you.

Omg thats so confusing since benadryls what's in it smh lol..thats why I thought itd be okay since benadryls supposedly approved.

My doctor said no to tylenol pm but she said I can take benadryl!

I agree! I took melatonin before I knew I was pregnant and when I found out I was told to stop by the doctor now I have a different doctor who says I can.Like you said its a matter of opinion but im sure it Is best to do without :/

I get confused with all this doctor's different opinions. My Dr says i shouldn't take any type of tylenol except the regular one for headaches, nothing more. No Tylenol Pm, Tylenol Flu, etc... In fact there's no safe drug during pregnancy for sleeping aid. Hope you have an answer soon
