picky eaters

My 18 month old son has recently decided to be picky about what he eats. It has nothing to do with him not liking things and everything to do with he just doesn't want it. He wants the junk food and I won't give it to him constantly. I can barely get him to eat unless it's Applesauce or sweets/chips. I don't switch out his meals. I usually give him his food and he sits in his chair until he eats or he just doesn't eat. Usually he will eat a very small amount and then refuse to eat anymore. This is a new thing. He's always been a little piggy lol. So i dont understand why recently he's so stubborn about eating. Any tips or advice? I don't have the money to go buy new and different food right now so that's not an option.

Just make sure you only offer nutritious things so when he does eat he's getting as much good stuff as possible. Try mixing veggie purees into the applesauce, carrots mix really well. Does he like yogurt? I buy whole fat Greek yogurt for ds so he at least gets some protein and fats.

My pediatrician says this is normal, and not to worry too much if they get the proper amount of variety over a 3-4 day time. Hopefully he starts eating better soon.

Yeah. I make sure to buy things I know he likes. And yet he won't eat it. Hopefully he doesn't do this for too long.

Yea this behavior is totally normal. My 4&1/2 year old still doesn't eat great. But they won't starve. I think it's harder on us then them lol

My son was the same at that age and still is at three years old. I kid you not he starves himself to the point I recently took him to the doctor to make sure his weight was fine and to get some advice. He told me he sees this happen all the time. It's just my sons way of getting control of something. He's refusing to eat cause he can. Especially since he can't talk.

He suggested i offer the food Once and then put it in a place he knows so he can ask for it when he wants it. And to keep giving him healthy snacks. If I can I'll leave his food out on the table and will find him eating it on his own later.

This is a daily frustrating struggle between us but I try not to make it a big deal because at the end of the day kids won't let themselves starve too much.

Also what PP said one meal a day is fine

It's just a phase that can sometimes last a long time lol. All kids go through it. Don't stress too much. My pedi said as long as they get one good meal a day (of course offer 3) they will be fine. With healthy snacks in between

I usually let him have an Applesauce everyday but he doesn't get sweets and junk on a regular basis.

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?

So my son out of blue decides he doesn't like chicken anymore?! Last night he wouldn't eat it for my mom and tonight he wouldn't eat it for me. Idk if it's cause he's teething or because he's super picky and this is what he does. He's done it with ham before too. So if he doesn't like chicken anymore idk what the heck I'm going to feed him. That's basically all he eats besides turkey and today he was being funny with that too. 😫☹ 🤔 He can eat baby food and peanut butter and jelly then if he wants to be that way. I try so hard. He's super picky and he has a wheat allergy so it's not easy. Tonight I even made something brand new and he ate the sweet potatoes out of it but nothing else. Sigh.

Just so mad at my husband before we moved he promised he would put our son to bed at night and get him his bottle. Then promised that on the mornings he doesn't work or the ones he works later he would feed him breakfast so I can have my relax time before having him all day long. Then every morning he is here he says he's not going to get him breakfast because he doesn't want to and sits there telling me to go make and feed our son breakfast. Then every time I remind him of his promise he rolls his eyes and gets butt hurt like wtf. You promised me these things I didn't make you and it makes me mad when you don't want to honor your word and then demand that I do it instead of at least asking me if I could. I feed my son his breakfast and now I'm eating mine in the kitchen because I'm just so irritated.

At What Age Should a Child Make Their Own Breakfast?

Make your own breakfast! At what age do you think a child should be making their own breakfast? I have a 10 year old and I think he is perfectly capable of making himself breakfast. It doesn't take rocket science to put some waffles into the toaster, or microwave some pancakes. My husband insists that he needs to have breakfast made for him because if we left it up to him he wouldn't eat enough and it would take him forever.
