Baby still not sleeping at night

My first was like this and still woke up at night until. he was 1 1/2. He also ate once at night until about a year old. Ppl told me not to feed him at night and let him cry it out but I never did. He was a big boy--born average but shot up to 90th percentile and has stayed ever since. He has always been a really big eater and still is at 4. This one sleeps 6 hour stretches at night before she wakes to eat, which is so different! It was actually an adjustment for me to not be up constantly. Every baby is different and just has different needs...I know how hard it is though, esp while working. I promise, they do start sleeping eventually, but on their own timeframe. And nothing that any of the books or doctors said worked; he slept longer when he was ready. Good luck!!

All babies are different my middle child didn't sleep through until he was 2 yrs old. My oldest was like 6 -7 months maybe older Lilly slept through almost immediately but it didn't matter as my older children wake up randomly.

My first son was sleeping 8-13 hour stretches at 3 months I didn't expect to get that lucky again lol. Dr said I hit the baby lottery with my first sleep wise. My second who is 2 months old never sleeps more than a 4 hr stretch and those are FEW AND FAR between on a normal night he wakes every 2 hrs.

Mine finally does..he is in bed by 830...wakes up at 12 to eat..than until 430am..sometimes he wont go back to bed until 6am or he will and than wake up at 7am..he use to actually not sleep at night he wud be wide awake from 11pm until 330am so this new schedule is amazing for me lol

My girl goes to bed between 9 and 10pm and either sleeps until 5 am or wakes up at 3pm to feed then right back to sleep. Either way you get used to it going back to work and it's not bad. I mean she doesn't get up every hour that I don't think I'd handle well and then go work an 8 hour day but your body will adjust regardless of the schedule. Good luck

Mine has one four hour stretch. The rest vary between two and three hours... You're not alone!

If you're interested in getting your child to sleep longer periods of time(any age) and eventually sleeping through the night I recommend reading healthy sleep habits healthy child. It's all about not letting child get overtired and it works. It's harder for really young ones but it will help.

Ehhh depends on the night. Sometimes he's up every hour. Sometimes he sleeps stretches of 2-4 hours. The hard part is actually getting him TO SLEEP. Lol but once he's out its usually pretty promising

I agree with chipmunk. It is very unrealistic. My first woke up a couple of times during the night for the first year. My second still, at 3 years, does not sleep through the night. I kept thinking "any day now" every night and it never happened. It could be the breastfeeding (2 years), it could be something in her sleep cycle (I read something about waking when the body switches to REM), it could just be how she sleeps. Who knows. She is doing much better now, but still climbs into my bed or her sister's every night.

Now with my 2 month old, he sleeps for a good 5-6 hour stretch each night.

Every baby is different. Don't let it get to you, just go with the flow.

Oh. But I did read something about dream feeding. When you go to bed, pick up and feed your baby. He will go back to sleep but have a full tummy and likely to sleep his longest stretch then, when you are going to sleep too.

I may try her tummy. At her 2 month check up the doctor said her head control was good enough to put her like that. She actually rolled from belly to back while at the doctor. She finally came to bed with me at 6:30 and slept another hour but I'm still exhausted!

PP I'm wondering if baby might have been cold? The time she was waking up is the coldest part of the morning, and babies will be warmer on their tummies. If you did want to try them on their back again you could try extra blankets to see if that makes a difference.

My LO used to wake up around 4:30-5:30 fussing and squirming every morning, but wasnt hungry or anything else.. I found when i put her on her tummy, bang straight back to sleep till like 10am!!!! Its amazing but strange, its only this time of day she wants to sleep on her belly! Not sure if ur comfortable with her being on her belly to sleep but i think if she can lift her head up and away if she needs too and your with her to hear if shes in trouble, no problems! Not sure if it will work for you but has saved my sanity!!!

Unfortunately our society gives very unrealistic expectations for sleep. It's actually very normal for a baby to wake every 2-3 hours in the first year, and still not completely sleep from bedtime until morning into toddlerhood. With infants the waking has actually been shown to help reduce SIDS. By sleeping lightly and waking easily and often it decreases the chances of getting into such a deep sleep that they stop breathing.

Believe me, I was there with my older son. I work overnights and didn't use any daycare so many days my husband and I both never slept (I was at work,he was up with baby) and both worked full time. He still woke once night gmail he was 2...and rhatvwaa after we gave in and did sleep training at 18 months and night weaned shortly after. Some kids just aren't good sleepers but it does get better eventually! Hope he sleeps better soon. The unfortunate truth is some babies just don't sleep well and we have to be really tired u til they figure it out.
