growth scan... It seems like everyone is getting growth scans except me :( this is my 4th baby and not one doctor ever…

On my third pregnancy and tomorrow is my first growth scan ultrasound. I had the same obs with my toddler and the growth scan was never mentioned. I have no real medical reason for the scan as my last two pregnancy have been totally “normal” barring me delivering at 38 weeks. I think this one is being done because baby has been on my sciatic nerve and each week the pain is getting worse to where some days I can can barely walk. There was talk of inducing at 38 weeks but nothing medically wrong with baby . I will be 34 + 6 weeks tomorrow so ?‍♀️ but hey it gives me a chance to see my little girl again before she is born.

My last pregnancy i had three ultra sounds and and it was considered a normal pregnancy til the end. I ended up losing fluids from 34 weeks on and almost lost him. That was at a clinic. This time i am at a private dr office and they are checking fluids at every appointment which i am very grateful for.

On the same boat, I asked this question a few weeks back too. No, growth scan here. They will only check if baby is head down starting at 36 weeks and I don’t even know if they’ll do an ultrasound for that. I’m so anxious to see my baby on an ultrasound.

With my second daughter they did a scan because I was measuring ahead. In it they discovered I was carrying extra amniotic fluid

I’ll have my growth scan at 37wks to check fluid & little mans position...I haven’t had one with my dr since around 20wks. I did have two elective 3D/4D scans at a private facility, but they weren’t required, of course. Just wanted to see his face! Lol

I haven’t had a scan since 20 weeks either. Will have one at my next appt where I’ll be 36 weeks to check baby’s position and fluid levels.

My first I had my last ultrasound at 20 weeks

This one around I had one at 30 weeks and was told that would be my last one just to see size and position of baby since she seemed high up.

My doctor didn’t mention an ultrasound until I requested it. I’m a FTM and I told him I felt like it was important to check on the baby during his final weeks to make sure everything looks like it’s suppose to. Birth is hard on both mom and baby it’s important to check on them before they’re due to come. At least that was my argument so doc finally agreed. I have the ultrasound today 33 weeks exactly ????

I’m on #5, and only had a growth scan with my third to check her size because I was trying for a vbac. I had a successful vbac, then had another one 16 months later, and that baby weighed 9lbs 8oz. So I’m not too concerned about size.

I got a growth scan because I was measuring three weeks ahead and sure enough she is big! I would assume if you are measuring on time they won’t do one ?

I didn't have one with my first but had a 4th degree tear. With my second I had switched doctors and he was concered about my scar tissue so he wanted to check size to make sure we didn't need a csection. He will do the same thing at 36 weeks. Praying this little girl is small!

At my 20 week scan he was measuring 2 weeks larger and if its only a couple days here and there they dont get concerned but mine was 2 weeks so they figure i may have my dates wrong and actually conceived 2 weeks earlier. And my daughter was 9.7 so they were concerned that he may come out larger and want yo avoid a csection. Its just a percaution scan i wouldnt be to worried not to have one. Means your baby is on par with weight and length.

I’m going to be getting ultrasounds/growth scans starting next week at 32 weeks and then every week leading up to my delivery because I take blood pressure medicine. My blood pressure has been fine but they said it was standard to check on the baby when your on blood pressure meds to check fluid levels etc. this is my 3rd baby and my first time doing this.

I have had 2 large babies and the last one I had some complications so doing scans to check this one doesn’t follow suit.

I’m having growth scans to make sure I don’t end up birthing another huge baby as I had complications last time. I may end up getting induced a week early this time or get booked for a cesarean depending on what happens

I'm high risk from a stillbirth i had years ago so they want to monitor my amniotic fluid, then got diagnosed with gestational diabetes so they have to check his growth and make sure he doesn't have a massive growth spurt and stays on track. I always thought everyone gets one at 36 weeks no matter what. Maybe that's just Australia though.

I get growth scans due to my blood clotting disorders and having to be on lovenox .

This is baby number 4 for me too and the first time I have had a growth scan. I had mine today because I am high risk due to previous preeclampsia and I have been measuring 4 weeks behind. Baby looked happy and healthy in there and was within the average range but a little on the smaller side. can't wait for my next appointment to find out results about the placenta etc

Had a scan at 26 and 32 weeks to check growth and fluids from high blood pressure. I go back at 36 weeks for what I believe will be my last but we will see what their doctor says. I have to drive an hour away to a specialist for them with where I live and she makes the recommendations on return appointments to my ob.

I'm having growth scans to check baby's size. I have a history of shoulder dystocia and this time I have GD on top of that so they want to keep an eye on baby's size and fluid levels as GD can affect that.

Thanks for the reply ladies, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one not recieving a growth scan. From the looks of it, it seems all the ladies who got one was due to medical reasons.

I’m having one done later this week at 32+3. I had low fluid with my previous pregnancy, so they’re calling it a growth scan, but they’re really checking my amniotic fluid level.

This is my third one and I've never done a growth scan either, so I was wondering the same thing Kristina!

This is also my third round with GD, so I thought maybe baby would get checked, but my doctor didn't mention anything, and whenever I need to do a test she'll let me know way in advance... So I don't think I'll have a look at baby again before birth.

I'm curious to hear the reasoning behind the growth scan from other moms who have done it or are waiting to do it.

My daughter quit growing around this time so my Dr is doing this to be safe and she wants to do one more in a few weeks to double check his growth. I had to beg for one with my daughter and I told her something doesn't feel right she's not moving and I'm losing weight. She gave in and it came back she stopped growing at 32 weeks and we didn't know until 37 weeks. She's my star baby.
