Hi mamas! My son is 9 days old and he’s been having a lot of discharge coming out of his eye. The other eye has some discharge too but mostly this one. I don’t see anything else wrong with it besides all the discharge coming out. I’ve been cleaning his eyes with a warm rag every time they get bad. Do I need to take him to the doctors for this?

Yes take him. My son has something wrong with his eyes and the hospital gave my drops to use it 4 times a day. Still didn’t heal but i’ll see his dr in 2 day

We had the same problem. If the white of the eye is still white, it’s probably a blocked tear duct. If it’s red or pink, it may be an infection.

I wiped it out with a warm washcloth at every diaper change, massaged the lower inner eye after and then did a couple drops of breast milk on it. Cleared up within a day of doing those things.

Pretty normal, my last baby It took a while to clear up but my other 2 ones cleared up quick, didn’t need eye drops, just wash cloth with warm water and breast milk is what I used but If u don’t feel at ease take him in to the doctor.

I agree with the tear duct ... you have to mush his inner eye to help it along.... his looks pretty hoppy so I’d call the dr to get eye drops

Both my children had this after being born. The recommendation was always to put breastmilk in the eyes. I just squirt a few drops before/after nursing (when baby has eyes open) onto corner of babies eyes.

My son had this problem from the time he was born till 3 months and I don’t feel the drops prescribed help, although my breastmilk did. While holding him I’d just squeeze a drop in the eye. Hope it helps! Just do it regularly for a week.

Probably not pink eye. His tear ducts are probably clogged. Happened with my son. This might sound weird but try squirting breast milk in his eyes and massaging it a bit. It doesn't always work but it can help. Both of my son's tear ducts were clogged and one of therm opened on their own but the other one we had to have surgically opened when he was 15 months old.

Do you breastfeed? If so just put a drop of breast milk in his eyes.

Yes, I would take him in. He needs antibiotic eye drops it would appear.
