Weaning
We are finally on the path to being weaned! He was down to only nursing for nap time and at night but yesterday he did so well not nursing at nap time that we went ahead and dropped the night nursing as well! If definitely took forever to get him to fall asleep but thankfully I'm a sahm and Athena isn't due until April. Hopefully we find better ways to fall asleep quickly before then. I think the whole process would be easier if my husband would put him to sleep but sadly he works long hours and can't. I just hope we're actually done and he keeps handling it well. I'll miss it but nothing will change the bond I have with my little guy and hopefully 24 weeks is early enough so he won't be jealous of his baby sister.
Me too. Luckily my husband is taking 2 weeks off work and working from home an additional week to help out.
We're on day 3 with no nursing! He hasn't even asked once!! A few days ago he asked if he could play a game before bed since baba was hurt (he pinched me earlier) and that was it. Getting him to sleep has still been frustrating since it takes a long time, but I'm sure it'll get easier.
He's consistently wanting it before bed now. I let him for 5 seconds and he's ok with it. I just wish he'd go back to being without it.
Last night he went to sleep fairly easily but he insisted on nursing. I only let him for ten seconds then we cuddled until he nodded off.
Last night was successful except he wanted to play until 2:30 am. I'm exhausted but so thankful I don't have to work. I do work this weekend so hopefully things get easier.
Yes and I lay with him until he falls asleep. He did great two nights in a row. Hopefully tonight will be ok. I hate giving in but I hate seeing him upset.
He asked a bit ago but was ok when I said no. I should have known this was going to be a really long process. I just really don't want him to resent his sister when I only nurse her so I figure the sooner he stops the better.
I am sorry. Maybe he will be ready in a few weeks. He probably realized what he had done by being so chill for a few days. ;-) just remember he has nursed for over 2 years it will take some time.
Oddly my son tried to nurse twice today and its been about 6 weeks. But I discovered I am producing colostrum now so he must instinctively know the books are producing again.
Set backs like crazy unfortunately. Last night he was hysterical and the same at nap time. I had to give in both times and it sucks. I feel like there is no way to wean him. If only I could remove my boobs and get them back when Athena is born. Ugh!!!!!!!!!
He fell asleep so fast and didn't even ask to nurse! I'm so happy right now. Hopefully he will sleep well tonight and not ask for it when he wakes up either. I can't believe it's finally happening. :-)
He's still going strong without it. He decided not to nap today so I'm hoping bedtime will be easier since he'll be pretty tired. He's only asked two times since my last post and accepted that it wasn't going to happen. I think he'll miss morning baba the most but I'm really hoping it keeps getting easier for him to be without it.
It may not get too bad Sallee. My son didn't even notice the first day and a half then woke up in the middle of nap and had a total freak out where we both cried for about 20 minutes(which I suspected to happen from the beginning)and that was the only one. He had some minor whining afterwards but nothing that didn't subside in a few minutes. I just kept saying you are a big boy you don't need boob to sleep. Naptime was the hardest. Hang in there. It won't necessarily get worse before it gets better.
Thank you. After I posted he woke up begging for baba saying he's not ready to give it up. It was so hard not to give in. I just picked him up to cuddle and gave him his first glass of chocolate milk, ovaltine so I guess it could be worse. He's good now but I know it's going to be a struggle. Is there a magic number of days to where it gets easier? My boobs are handling it well since there wasn't much milk anyway. I think the timing is great.
Science!
My friend posted this on facebook last night and said her kids were asleep within minutes. It's a song that scientists created to help people fall asleep. I was skeptical but I thought what the hay, I'll try it out. I didn't bank on Dh falling asleep, but both him and lo were asleep by minute 2. And lo slept six straight hours. ?
My son :/
I've been trying to get my son to say please for the longest time. Any time he wants anything I tell him to say please and he has never said it. Well I decided to night wean him because I can't handle him wanting to nurse all night with being so exhausted from this pregnancy. So the first time he woke up last night and I refused to give him the boob and what do I hear? "Please mama. Please." Lol, how could I say no to that?! So here I am at 7:30 nursing him for the 4th time since we w...
I hate that AJ falls asleep while nursing. 'Cause then he wakes up half an hour later still hungry. 😣😣
Question for my nursing mamas, how do you encourage weaning? I'm not in a huge rush but figured my lo would start on his own now that he's one but I seem to be his comfort tool for teething and he nurses to fall asleep and throughout the night so I'm basically a paci ( though he ditched wanting one of those 6 months ago) 😕 My husband says just stop but I can't do that. I've started giving him cow milk in a sippy cup but he still wants to nurse. Is there a method that works or do I just wait till...
Is what we’re doing okay? Currently for Harrison’s naps during the day (he needs like 3 of them still!) we have to push him in his pram and use white noise the whole time so he’ll sleep. At night it’s really just a case of he lays on the sofa with us and we put him in his cot when he falls asleep. We’ve never been able to just put him in his cot and let him fall asleep on his own as it just doesn’t work. We’ve tried so many times to get him to settle on his own which usually ends in us being up ...
Last night went a lot better. He did ask to nurse but I told him they didn't work anymore so he asked for water instead. He's been waking up earlier, napping earlier and going to bed at a better time. Hopefully he'll be back on schedule soon.
