Water breaking prep

Is anyone prepping for their water breaking? I'm a FTM and not sure if we should be covering our new mattress in plastic or something? Sorry if this is a silly question. I really have no idea!

Oh yes. My water broke overnight, waking me up. And its not like it's done after it breaks. I wasn't prepared as I was 10 days early, and actually convinced I was going to be overdue so still had to shower, pack a bag, I even did laundry (had no contractions). I eventually had to send my husband to the store at 5am with instructions to buy the biggest pads they had just so we could make it to the hospital. It just kept coming in gushes, soaking towels and my clothes. P.s. I was only dilated to 1/2-1 by the time we went.

With my previous, my waters actually broke at a Starbucks. ?

I have a non crinkly sounding waterproof mattress protector on our bed and a towel in the car (we have leather seats though). Probably a waste though, bc most women's waters don't break until they're in later labor at the hospital.

As PP have said, I wouldn't worry about it. Being said, we've pretty much always kept a waterproof sheet on our bed between my husband sweating so much in his sleep and his occasional accidents in bed (he'll be in a dream within a dream and swear he actually woke up to go pee, until he sets himself). If it were to happen in bed, as unlikely as that would be, we're good.

My water broke at the beginning of labor with my first, on our carpet in the bedroom and I didn't even bother cleaning it up haha. Then i leaked some more in the bathroom...hallway...living room...in the car..You've got more on your mind than cleaning your waters! Plus, water breaking at the beginning of labor is so rare.

Mine broke on the toilet too

Mine didn't break with my first two, but did with my third. I was asleep on the couch and it woke me up, felt a pop and I jumped up, (may or may not have screamed a little.. haha) and ran to the bathroom. It didn't leak until I got to the tile floor, luckily. Probably because I ran so fast lol. Mine was a huge gush. The bathroom rug and my pants were soaked, and it just kept coming! ? I'm always terrified that it will break at work...

No I wouldn't worry about it. If it makes you feel better sleep on a towel or an extra sheet. As said before it probably won't break. It's not as common as TV makes it seem.

Mine has never broke on its own. However, we have always had a waterproof mattress pad so if third time is a charm, I guess I'm prepared.

Out of my two previous pregnancies only with my first did my water break in bed. I woke to go to the bathroom early that morning and when I turned over I felt the pop but nothing came out. It wasn't until I actually got up, used the restroom and was on my back to my room did liquid actually start to trickle/stream down my leg. It wasn't a big gush of fluid all at once as soon as it broke.

lol I always think about this because we have mostly carpet & it's not like I'd get down & clean it up right then & there but I wouldn't want it to just soak up.

But I know a lot of women never even have it happen so I'm not really worried about it either way.

My water broke in bed and woke me up but it didn't leak through my pj's and broke more when I got to the bathroom. I actually wasn't sure if it broke or if I peed myself lol. But I wouldn't worry

Haha thank you ladies!

We always use a mattress protector on our mattress so I think we’re safe if that happens. ?

I wouldn't bother either! Last time mine broke while I was in the toilet ?

Although mine didn't break until at the hospital, I slept on a puppy pad (and carried one in my car) incase mine broke unexpectedly.

You're probably wasting your time. Only 10% of women have their water break on their own, at the start of labor.
