2 year old gets upset & tries to comfort babies or other kids if they cry. She will give them a toy or cuddle.
She is very sensitive though. Even as a baby she would cry when other babies cry.
My 4 month old laughs when DD cries ?
I'm aware of how important empathy is as a trait. I was worried as my youngest just didn't seem to grasp it, however when he reached age 4 to 5 he started to show signs. Now he's 7 and super empathetic toward others.
Sometimes it take a little longer to develop.
She says ohhh her face drops she gets worried and she will pay your back. She’s two.
My son is only 1 he will just watch and say oh no
My son gets really concerned and worried for me all day.. he’s a full blown Taurus
My LO (21 months) hugs you real tight or if it's me she'll try to nurse to make me feel better ?
my 3 year old gets concerned and will question why their crying... or if it's myself or her brother she will comfort us by sitting next to us and holding our hand.. lol thank goodness she hasn't been annoyed with her 2 month old brothers crying she reacts quickly by looking for his paci ? .. she one time did say that he screams to loud that she got a headache ???
My son will say "awe mommy he/she is crying they need their momma" . He is 3.
Mine will kiss or start crying.
DD will come over and give you a cuddle, she kisses me as well, and she asks what's wrong.
Our childminder has even commented on it, how she's more caring than some of the other 3 year olds she meets.
My 3 year old will go up to you rub your back and say "is ok, you be fine" it's the cutest thing!
I'm guessing they react to it like their caregiver reacts to them crying.
"Awww don't cry -insert name/noun-*hugs*" that's what my 4yo doess
My boys 6 and 7 will give hugs and rub your back and ask what's wrong.
The child I mentioned *does* get told often to stop crying or whining. Makes perfect sense now.
DD2: Fake crying she laughs if it's for real she rubs your back and tries to hug you.
My son will try and see why they are crying and who is helping. He is 23 months.
If he thinks he can help he will offer help or get another adult to help.
Kids practice what makes sense for them.
When we are out and see kids or babies cry I explain what's happening and that someone is helping or baby is feeling (angry, sad, scared, ect. ). He has a big vocabulary for emotions and can ask for what he needs. We will see how he makes sense of our new baby soon.
My 2 year old will hand his friends a toy, hug, ask if you're ok, etc.
If i fake cry he rubs my leg and says i’m sorry lol
But if someone else is crying he asks “(name) crying??” and I’ll be like yes and he just says “otay”
10 year old DD- she comes close to me if someone’s crying, and she looks concerned.
7 year old DS- stares in shock
5 year old DS- consoles whoever is crying(he is my most stubborn child) .
She gets worried. Unless it's her brother. Than she's annoyed. Ds is 5 months and when dd cries he cries.
She gets sad herself. She even gets sad if a character on tv is sad and will tell me they’re sad.
I don’t think it’s normal to laugh or be annoyed and say “stop crying”... my guess is thats what she has seen or been told.
My son (will be 4 in April) always says "oh no that people( or name if he knows them) is sad" in a really sad voice with a really sad face. If he knows them he will go and give them a hug and ask if they are all better. But if its a stranger he just stays sad until we are no longer near the sad person and then asks why that person was sad. If it's me, his dad, or any of his grandparents he will give them a big hug and kiss and tell us he made us all better.
Dd1- also starts crying or gets upset.
Dd2- looks at the crying person like “wtf is wrong with you?” ?
My 3 year old can kind of go either way. When his brother cries it's either "it's okay, Baylor. Don't cry" or he covers his ears and screams "Baylor's crying!" Or he just runs away.
With anyone else he'll usually tell them it's okay.
My 2.5 looks confused/concerned and says “mama (or whoever) sad??” And comes over and gives hugs & kisses and usually says “Mama be ok! Mama happy now?”
I’ve been emotional lately lol and he’s so sweet.

Dd (6) and ds (2) are both very caring. They will stop and ask what’s wrong, give a hug and make a sad face. It’s pretty cute actually.
