Solids before 6 months

Because of reflux? I'm so lost and frustrated.

Rice cereal helped a ton for my son. Before that he was constantly spitting up and in pain. It would even come up his nose while he was sleeping. Ever since we started rice cereal he's been a whole different baby! Sooo happy and smiling, when he used to cry non-stop. Medication didn't help, special formula didn't help, we tried lactose free, predigested protein, soy, everything! He was crying and I was crying with him.

Finally, when he was 3 months, the doctor convinced me to try it. There was immediate difference!

Say what you will, but everyone I know has been given solids before 6 months. I did a lot of research, too, and the AAP recommends 6 months because that's the longest it takes for the tummy to mature and for the intestines walls to close up properly. Most close up within 6 weeks. All of this talk about virgin gut or whatever it is - they make it seem like you'll kill your baby if you feed it- is blown way out of proportion. Every child is different.

I second chiropractor it will do much more for baby than food. Plus rice cereal is really no good hard to digest it has high levels of arsenic and can stretch their tummies just all around blah

I personally wouldn't risk lifetime digestive issues just to make the silent reflux stop. I'd pursue all other options first, especially since your pedi seems very eager to push solids and isn't updated on current research

My daughter is 5 months and has outgrown her reflux this past month. And we haven't started solids.

One of the peds admitted starting solids this early is solely to show them how to use a spoon. Lol

Try a pediatric chiropractor, it does wonders for colic and reflux.

My daughter also had bad reflux n pedi suggested I started giving her solids at 4 months so the milk can stay down. I was too scared to so I waited till about 5 months. After that her reflux was completely gone by 6 months. It did make a huge difference for her. She wasn't gassy n fussy from it anymore n definitely no more spitting up. It worked for us

He suggested rice cereal around... 1 month old, I think, then said, "Oh, you're breastfeeding, so that wouldn't work." I've considered introducing only cereal (my LC suggested oatmeal cereal because breastmilk apparently dissolves rice cereal completely...?) until 6 months/actually ready for solids.
