Can anyone actually link me...

I'm 4 and a half weeks postpartum, I've only got a week and a half to go; I'm fine with waiting until my appointment and being cleared. I'm EBF, too, so LO is always on me, either nursing or sleeping.

I was curious to see if anyone could provide links stating the 6 week rule because so many people are so adamant on it... Kind of like the "no solids before 6 months" thing, but that can be backed up by a ton of sources.

I wanted to make sure my Google skills weren't failing me, and apparently, they weren't. Thanks!

Get clearance from your doctor and go for it after you get the okay from your doctor, because once you get the all clear from your doctor you should be good to go.

I don't think my doctor even mentioned sex. She just said she would see me in six weeks. May have, but I was in shock over my emergency cs.

Listen to your body. 6 weeks is standard. But if you use a condom and you feel good then I would go for it. I did, never had any problems. But that was not till 4-5 weeks PP I would not risk going earlier. Again that's just me.

Make an appointment with your doctor if you feel that you're ready. They will let you know.

Most women on here, myself included, are adamant about 6 weeks, since it's very much a "rather be safe than sorry" situation. I had a uterine infection after having my LO; IT IS NOT FUN. I felt worse on the antibiotics for that infection than I did after my c-section. Its pretty much a 6 weeks, or when you're cleared by a medical professional. 6 weeks is the closest to the delivery but also when it's the most likely to be all healed and closed. Think of it this way: we don't know for sure how much alcohol causes developmental issues in babies, so we say "no booze while pregnant". Well, you don't know if you're all internally healed before 6 weeks, so no sex.

Like pp said everyone closes at different times. Nursing and hormones help everything shrink faster and so it makes sense that everyone is different. No one is the same

I think the reason is that everyone is different so you need to rely on yourself and doctors exam to know when that is for you. I'm surprised that nothing really comes up as to why

You can get pregnant very very easy in those 6 weeks. Your body should heal a good year before having another baby. And there is only one thing 100% effective at preventing baby (not counting sterilization) if you had stitches, you can rip them out or re open the wound.

My Dr does 4 weeks

I was cleared at 31/2 weeks. 6 is recommended so everything has time to heal and close. You really shouldn't go for it unless okayed by the Dr. Some people may heal slower than others, only a Dr can see if everything is healed properly.

6 weeks is usually when you get seen by a doctor to be cleared.

I think it's typically 6 weeks depending on how you heal. My doctor cleared me at 4 weeks, but originally said 6 when I delivered.

It takes 4-6 weeks for you cervix to close back up after child birth, so even if you've stopped bleeding your cervix might not be fully closed. I guess they say 6 weeks to be safe that your cervix is closed and you won't get an infection.

Sarah, the point is different doctors recommend different things. That's why I'm trying to see where the medical proof is for waiting 6 weeks exactly, not 4-6 weeks, etc.

I don't have a source (other than what doctors and midwives will tell you), but the reasoning is that your cervix is still open and your uterus is raw and so you are very susceptible to infection. Germs can be introduced by putting anything in your vagina, whether that is a penis or a tampon.

6 weeks with out sex won't kill ya. Just go by what your doctor says.

My doctor was proof enough for me, but I'll see if I can find a credible source.
