Regarding the 1 hr glucose test...

It is going to depend on the test they actually performed on your blood, there are several different types they could have used and based on that the cut offs vary. If you failed then you failed the test they use and it's best to take the 3 hour to ensure its not gestational diabetes.

I took the 50g drink, and they tested my sugar right there, didn't send it off or anything. From my research, that's the standard test.

Anything over 105 at my dr office is automatic fail. You start diabetic diet and whatever else you need.

105 after the 1 hour glucose drink test? That sounds more like a fasting blood sugar level, or else a different (lower sugar?) test.

It all depends on the lab and the hospital/ doctors office policy. Yeah 105 is a little strict after 1 hour. With GDM they want your glucose 120 2 hours after a meal. I would think most ppl would fail. Considering everyone is normally higher during pregnancy because of the hormones and increased demands on the body.

It doesn't matter if the didn't send it off the test they did to the blood can vary, so their cut offs will vary. I'm a phlebotomist, and worked in a lab every doctor will do it different based on the test they choose and the window they are comfortable treating as the doctor.

I'm definitely no doctor or medical professional; I just know it doesn't line up exactly with the national standards from sources I trust.

But I'm gonna let it go. It's nothing that really affects the baby -- just uncomfortable for me. Better safe than sorry on this subject. Thanks for y'all's comments!

My dr made me take a 2 hour one twice because I was overweight and said it was a factor to get it. I passed with flying colours both times my son ended up being 10lbs 10oz and they checked me again at 38 weeks when they estimated my son over 10lbs passed again lol just had a huge baby!

Yes its ridiculous honestly. So many people fail.

Just an update, I called and asked about the numbers, and the nurse said they consider over 135 failing... So she canceled the order for the 3-hour test and noted it for me!
