weaning? Today my almost 10 month old decided that after his first feeding this morning that he would not breastfeed…

I just don't understand how he could go like 7 or so hours in between eating and not even attempting to latch on to eat when I try about 3 hours after and so on.

He did the same again tonight. Went from 2pm or so when I gave him the 2oz I could pump then another 4oz of formula and he's just now eating again at almost 7:30 and didn't want to eat when I tried at 4:30 and didn't cry to eat or anything. Not sure I'd that makes sense or not

It's a nursing strike, a baby will not self wean that early.

I have been going through this for the last two weeks or so. Davis has been on a nursing strike. I started worrying and giving him formula (I'm unable to pump anything now) which made things worse. I spoke to my lactation consultant and she said self weaning isn't usually done this early. She told me it's super unusual for a baby to wean under 12 months, and usually won't wean until 18-24 months (on their own). I stopped offering formula and continued trying to nurse.. I know this sounds bad but I had to keep him distracted so he would stay latched so I would let him watch tv while we nursed. Now he's starting to nurse again like he was before 4-5 times a day. So my advice is to just try your best to continue to nurse and distract him if you can.

That's what happened to me. I'm a teacher, when I went back to work after summer, i wasn't pumping nearly enough. Since he was getting a bottle more, he was getting mad when I would try to nurse. He just kept popping off, I checked and there was milk right there, so I think it was just because he wasn't getting it fast enough. He started nursing less and less, which then my pumped supply when down even more. We made it to 8 months breastfeeding, and 8.5 months supplementing, and now at nine months he's just on formula. Pretty much he just weaned himself and preferred the flow of the bottle better.
