@josa his doctor just asked if his tongue went further than his bottom lip, which it does so she didn't seem to concern about it. But never mentioned anything about tongue tie.
He's getting better at eaten now. I think it was just being in that newborn state I guess. His days very from eating every 2 hours now to 4 hours. I feel bad if I let him go longer than 4 hours of not eating and just sleeping.
I would strip him down when eating but it's to cold here for me to feel comfortable enough to do that. It's only like 2 outside right now so even though the heat comes on inside the house always has a chill to it.
Have they checked him for a lip or tongue tie? It doesn't always interfere with nursing (my son has a lip tie that never needed to be corrected and my nephew has a pretty severe tongue tie. His latch is weird but since it's not causing his mom any pain and he's growing like a weed the doctor isn't concerned), it could possibly contribute to the longer time stretch.
Some babies are also super lazy early, we had to strip my son down and tickle his feet everytime he nursed for the first month otherwise he'd fall asleep or refuse the boob.
Lastly, is he gaining weight appropriately? If so, I honestly wouldn't worry about it. There are all sorts of things with breastfeeding that are supposed to be 'normal' that vary so much baby to baby. When my son was just weeks old I was told there was no way a newborn could eat 4 oz in 6 minutes, but he proved them wrong when the LC weighed him before and after a feeding... Evidently he was a gulper and my boobs are on tap!
You're doing nothing a great job, momma!
No. The only time I give him a bottle with breast milk in it is after like 1 hour or trying to get him to latch. Normally it doesn't go that far, but when it does he does it good.
Thanks ladies. My husband told me to just feed him when he's hungry too since his one friend is a nurse so that's what I've been doing. And I've tried doing all those things to help him with latching and staying awake but they usually don't work. Hes the most content baby though which surprises me sometimes.
He will eat when he's hungry! New borne are sooo tired they need to sleep a lot! I've been having the same issue with baby girl she only ate 2 times the first whole day she was born but the nurses all told me that as long as she's content not fussy Snd acting like she's starving and as long as I keep trying it is perfectly fine!
I know it doesn't make you worry less but keep your head up mamma! He'll eat when he's hungry!! Just keep trying and eventually he'll get it!!
My baby was so sleepy !!! I had to blow on her, undress her , rub her back to get her to feed. I had to make sure she was feeding every 2-3 hours because she had slight jaundice which makes babies even MORE sleepy. I'm happy I did though because my supply came in the second day. As for her latch it's still a work In Progress and she's 15 days old. Sorry I couldn't be that much help but it's worth it to take the extra time to make sure the latch is on properly . I strip my little guy down and then put him skin to skin and cover with a blanket if he is sleepy. That usually wakes him. Or change his diaper.
