Second opinion before D&C

So sorry you are experiencing this. My doctor did a scan before prescribing misoprostol and when that failed, another ultrasound before the dnc. For my missed miscarriage I had a total of 5 scans to make sure it was truly not viable. There was some growth between some of the scans but not enough to be viable. It was a very difficult time because i kept hoping for a miracle and wishing for a different outcome. But the scans gave me confidence that it was truly a miscarriage. I hope you get answers soon❤

Absolutely get a second opinion! With my last pregnancy I went to the dr at 8.6 and was measuring 6.3! Come to find out I had just ovulated late! Hope all is well??

I was 9 weeks and baby measured 7 and they couldn’t find a heart beat the ER had told me to call my OB but she suggested an ultrasound in a week and more blood work to see if maybe baby was behind where I thought I was. Sadly I started bleeding when I got home and miscarried before we had the chance. But if you feel like you want a second opinion it can’t hurt. Maybe you aren’t as far along as you think. Hopefully you can wait a little longer and get the answers you want and need. Sending you the best keep us updated.

They did a blood draw yesterday but have not requested anymore. They scheduled me for my D&C next week but I’m going online and canceling my appointment and going to call tomorrow to schedule an appointment for a second opinion at another clinic. They did blood draws every other day a few weeks ago and everything was normal. I just don’t want to give up so easily if there’s any chance there’s a baby in there.

I requested an extra ultrasound when I had bleeding early on during my current pregnancy, my midwife said she would put in a scrip for it if I wanted, so your doctor should be able to offer another ultrasound if requested. Also, are you getting your levels measured again? Mine were super high when I had my miscarriage since they were rising for so long, but they did show a decrease over a two day period.

They done me the same way with my last daughter. Defenitly go get a second opinion. According to my LMP I should of been of been like 7.5 wks. When I went for my ultra sound they only found an empty sac. My doctor said that he was going to schedule me for an DnC the following week because we should of seen way more than just a sack. I still felt pregnant though. After A few days of crying and being depressed my SO decided we would get a second opinion. Best decision I ever made. I skipped the DnC and made myself wait 2wks when I went to the next ultrasound there was a baby and a faint little heart beat. I had managed to ovulate not one but two weeks later than expected. If I would of went to that DnC I would never had the chance to meet my daughter. Doctors just practice medicine. They really don't know everything 100%. If you still feel like there is a chance your baby is okay then follow your gut. I hope for the best for you. Prayers.

I asked them what i measured at during my first ultrasound and they said it was too small to measure so this time they were able to measure it at 6 weeks. So it definitely grew. I just don’t want to give up yet.

I saw in your other post that you had a previous ultrasound a couple weeks ago that also showed an empty sac. Unfortunately in my opinion this sounds like a blighted ovum. In two weeks there should have been progress (i.e. growth) and with HCG levels as high as yours there should also be a heartbeat by now. That said, it is your right to refuse treatment (the D&C) and wait it out. You could also say you want a repeat ultrasound in a week before proceeding, your doctor should agree to that unless they can conclusively prove that this isn’t a viable pregnancy. Sorry you are going through this.

I should be right around 6-7 weeks. I know I ovulated over a week late. I would say it happened on CD23 and I have super irregular cycles. I just don’t know how to go about getting a second opinion.

How far do you think you should be? If it’s anywhere close to 6 weeks i would definitely get another opinion. I think you should be able to ask to wait a week and have a second ultrasound to check for growth. When I had mine I knew exactly when I ovulated so I knew I was 10 weeks, and they saw an empty sac measuring 9 weeks, so I didn’t need another opinion to confirm it was definitely a miscarriage. It took me until 12 weeks though to start miscarrying, and my levels were in the 6-8 week range when I had my blood drawn at that 10 week apt, so it took my body forever to realize it wasn’t a viable pregnancy.
